food restrictions

Due to chronic migraines I underwent food sensitivity testing (some will buy into it some will not) got some answers and made some changes... what I can tell you is that I've never felt better from a digestive and migraine standpoint. aka 1 minor migraine in 4 1/2 months when previously I was have 2-3 a month that would last on average 5-6 days. I've also lost over 20 lbs almost exclusively from the diet change.

However it's required cutting the following general groups from my diet - Gluten, Dairy and Nightshades (Tomatoes, Peppers, Eggplant and Potatoes) - side note, sweet potatoes are allowed. As a major food addict the mental adjustment was major.

Now I'm running into a problem of eating enough throughout the day - never thought that would happen. As someone who was never a big fruit or raw veggie person the struggle has been real when it comes to quick grabs. Are there people with really restrictive diets that can give some pointers on adjusting to huge overhauls like this?

    I feel your pain :(
Somewhere 2010 I was diagnosed gluten intolerent and sensitive for pumpkin and tomatoes (nightshade family...)
Pumpkin still is a big NO for me but with tomatoes i figured out it's the seeds that trigger allergic reactions, just saying as it might be worth experimenting if yo are completely sensitive or partially.

I can't see what country you are from, here in Europe my favourite gluten replacement brand is Dr. Schar. There is a lot on the market today compared to a few years ago. If your supermarket does not carry a health or dietery restrictions food isle, try a health or organic store as they usually carry a a broarder variety.

Same goes for dairy supplements. Think soymilk, almond milk, etc. Check the vegan products and you'll find loads of stuff: cheese, cream, icecream.... I'm not vegan but have tasted some and like with the gluten free products it's hit or miss depending on the brand and your taste.

    My favourite non fruit/veggie snacks:
yoghurt with gluten free musli (i mix 'dr schar' with 'eat natural buckwheat' musli)
    airpopped salted popcorn
    oatcakes with a topping
corn thins with slice of avocado or hummus
cucumbers or carrots with hummus with lime and cilantro
    GF crumpets with honey

    Hope this inspires you!

Udi's is a great brand of gluten-free bread stuff...I'm not sure if they are dairy free or not...nut thins are probably my favorite cracker type gluten-free item...ohsheglows.com has a lot of good vegan recipes and many of them are gluten free (not sure if they will be nightshade free)...also, I think paleo food plans do no grain and no dairy, so searching for paleo snack recipes may get you some more options.

Check food labels because you might be sensitive to potatoes in the form of "modified food starch" or "tapioca starch." Oh, and skip the vodka. :)
You can eat larger portions of rice and quinoa and buckwheat. Also more oil and sugar.
Pay attention to getting enough protein: dark meat chicken, fattier cuts of beef, salmon, nuts.

You might want to try Coconut ice cream. It is delicious.

Here is a recipe for white chicken chili (no night shades). Skip the butter. Check the ingredients in the chicken broth:

Also look for recipes for the Paelo diet as some of those folks eat a diet similar to yours.

If you google AIP (autoimmune protocol) you'll likely find a lot more recipes too.
