I need a protein drink that isn't thick like a shake.

Hello, this will probably sound ridiculous but I don't like thick drinks, I don't do milkshakes, can't tolerate whole milk either. I would like to have a protein drink for breakfast on the go but need it to be more on the consistency of water. Does anyone have any ideas for that? Thanks.

I don't like thick drinks either. Best I can do is water them down.

Add more water to your shake.

Yep, watering them down is the only suggestion I have as well.

Mainly wanted to say that I love your avatar! That's so cute.

If you don't make your own shakes that you can water down and you buy them already made, my boyfriend drinks the Atkins shakes (you can find them where you find the Slim Fast cans). Those are pretty thin. I believe for about 12 oz there is about 15 g protein.

Okay, thanks kwitilbury; BAZH10, murp4069 and ponycyndi. I will try that approach. I was hoping for a protein powder that was less thick, but I didn't really expect that answer.

I have texture issues as well as the thickness thing. I don't want to feel the texture of the powder if it's not mixed in well. I may try the Atkins one just in case I can handle it.

There's a protein water product out now. I googled it and found all sorts of samples.

Yeah Jay Robb isn't thick. Actually honestly none of the protein powders I've tried (except Quest... maybe) were thick when made with water.

In that case, there's this stuff. It's pretty expensive and tastes gross.

WPI tends to be thin and watery when mixed... I hate it for that reason and wont do protein shakes on their own

    Bcaa's are watery too...

Check the ingredients. If it has Xanthum Gum, a thickening ingredient, it will be thicker and smoother in texture. Depending on where it's listed in the ingredients tells you how much is in it. Some brands do not use Xanthum Gum. Otherwise, add more liquid or water, to make it thinner. Put all in the fridge and have it later if the volume is more than you want for one drink.

Can be super expensive but I like they way they taste...but I'm also okay with mixing my protein powder with water and drinking that.

Core Power drinks aren't thick, basically like flavored milk, but they're pricey and a little high in calories for my needs.

I love thick protein shakes, so I think I may be able to help. After seeking out the thickest shakes I could, I noticed those with xanthan gum in the ingredients were thicker, and those without it weren't thick at all.
So there you have it. I can't recommend a good brand, but just look at the ingredients list and put it back if it has xanthan gum! You SHOULD be good then!

    15 grams per bottle.
I can't personally vouch for how well they taste since I've never tried them (whey protein disagrees with my stomach), but one of my coworkers buys them by the case, so they must not taste too bad.

Another alternative is to mix it with almond milk. I use either 200mls of coconut or chocolate coconut flavoured almond milk. They both come in really low in calories. If you want it a little thicker, I recommend adding a bit of banana. Start with maybe 50g blended in and either reduce if increase depending on how you like the texture.

Everyone has great ideas, but I was thinking another option would be adding your protein powder to meals instead of drinking it.

Shakeology is the thickest protein powder I've ever seen...

Optimum Nutrition is pretty watery. Plus then if you add another couple of ounces of water it should be an acceptable texture.

My fiance drinks a protein powder that has minimal extra ingredients, it is like drinking slightly flavored water. He gets it from The Vitamin Shop.

I've tried a few protein powders. I find ON to be quite thin mixed with milk. I usually just use water, doesn't taste that bad either in water.

I use an unflavored whey protein isolate powder and add it to a bit of grapefruit juice. I use Jay Robb and it mixes really well and isn't thick, but I'm sure there are others out there. I think most of the flavored stuff is going to be thicker because it's made to drink alone.

I've even added my unflavored protein powder to whatever I was already eating for dinner....mashed potatoes, spaghetti sauce, soup, anything I could stir it into... when I didn't have enough calories left for juice to mix it with. I couldn't even taste it, it just absorbed a bit of the moisture that's all.

Unflavored protein is very handy stuff.
Thank you I'll look for that.

Why thank you for that disclaimer :) I figure I'll buy one and try it and see. I probably need to do that with several of these suggestions.
