Hey girls!
Just looking for anyone who has PCOS. Looking for tips/tricks/advice for what is working for you? I am 25 and was diagnosed with PCOS about a year ago... I take metformin now... I am logging my food and dropping weight...
What's anyone's success stories... Any special diet, meds, etc.?

I'm trying to lose weight too, not on any meds, but trying the glutton free.0

Lose the weight and your symptoms will improve. No need for special eating restrictions, unless your dr mentioned other health issues (e.g. prediabetes). And increase physical activity, it helps a lot, regardless of weight loss.0

I don't think my PCOS makes it any harder to lose weight. My hypothyroidism probably has a bigger effect but that's under control with medication.
I have lean PCOS. I've never really been overweight, except the year after my son was born and I was just slighty overweight at 130 to 135lbs.
I've lost 17lbs in about 3 months. Now I'm 113lbs.
I'm not insulin resistant as far as my blood work shows, but I do have issues with hypoglycemia so I try to eat low to moderate carb and I always pair carbs with protein to prevent blood sugar drops.
I also take 4g inositol per day. I haven't noticed big changes in my cycke...but I think I ovulate a little earlier....and my cycles might be a few days shorter.0 -
Lower your carbs to about 100/day. All should be good.0

Thanks for everyone's input!0

Certain aspects of PCOS can make it more difficult to lose weight when following a traditional diet. If you have insulin resistance (which you likely do, as you're on Metformin) your body can crave carbs which makes it mentally exhausting to try to diet unless you do something to help regulate that insulin reaction. The medicine you're on does that, so as long as you take that as prescribed you should be able to maintain a reasonable calorie deficit and lose well. I'm sure your doctor told you that you might have some digestive upset if you consume a large amount of carbs while taking the medicine, so watch out for that. Won't kill you or anything, but it certainly isn't fun!
Most of the other symptoms will be taken care of by losing weight. The insulin resistance that a lot of people experience just makes that a more arduous task for a lot of women with PCOS.
Because my doctor is (in my opinion) entirely too conservative in prescribing me Met, I take a Chromium supplement to try to help my body regulate me insulin response and I try to eat low carb. It allows me to reach the calorie deficit that lets me lose weight without as many issues with cravings as if I were eating a more carb heavy diet.0 -

It is not always true that weight loss helps symptoms. For most people it does, but not all. I am definitely in the camp that weight loss does not alleviate symptoms of PCOS.
I have also never had luck with low carb dieting either. The single biggest thing that helped for me was exercise, in conjunction with Metformin.

I have pcos I was diagnosed when I was 20, I am now 28. I take medroxyprogesterone to help bring down my periods. I was on metformin but it made me so sick.0

Following a ketogenic diet is working for me! I've lost 65 pounds so far, with another 50 or so to go. Aside from the easy weight loss, my skin has improved (not completely, but far better!) And my periods have regulated without the use of birth control.
I've been taking metformin for years with no noticed improvement before, but I'm sure it works even better with my low carb diet. Keto can be an awesome option for insulin resistant cysters0 -
