Hi, I'm a 51 year old type 1 diabetic for the past 30 years. Over the past 6 or so years I'd say I've been yo-yo dieting combined with getting fitter. 5 years ago I cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats, the next two years I ran a half marathon in the spring. This year I have taken up power walking to stop knackering my knees! So far this year I've shed 9lbs. Slow and steady.
My top tips would be eat dextrose tablets as you exercise, don't alter your insulin. You burn far more calories than you put in with the dextrose.
For me the 5 and 2 approach works best. Drink lots of water.

I have been a type 1 since my early forties, about 16 years. In the last few years I've transitioned to a healthier food plan. Here's the thing, I'm also a compulsive eater and go to meetings to address that issue. So I have this desire to keep eating certain foods, which I stop much of the time, but then, there are days that, for no particular reason, I end up shoving food in without measuring it. Most of the meals I eat, thank goodness, are pretty healthy, and if I know I'm going to have something that is not the healthiest (sweets I really mean,) then I account for that when I bolus for my meal. I'm on an Animas Ping pump, which has it's own meter.

I came up on this forum because I'm trying to find some place that has integrated the pump downloads with myfitnesspal. It's unbelievable to me that no one has created a format where that information can be put in, other than by hand. I just downloaded and then removed the "diabetic pilot" because I would have to put my food in, in a whole other format, and I think that myfitnesspal has the best format around.

I was much bigger when I went on insulin. I was also misdiagnosed as a type 2, but I'm meeting more and more people who were diagnosed after the age of 30. Jay Cutler, the quarterback for the Chicago Bears became a T1 5 years ago. Maybe we could get him to appeal to Lifescan or one of the pump companies to integrate with MFP!!
