Too many carbs ok?

I would like to know if I am having too many carbs. Looking at my macros for the day I often have a high percentage. I am not eating bread or pasta etc. I have porridge, kumara (sweet potato) plus veggies. My protein is a good percentage and day to day my fat macro ranges from low to normal. So yeah just wondering if these are ok or if its too much. Thanks, will turn on public view to my diary.

Depends on what your worried about. From a caloric standpoint, carbs from bread or pasta are the same as carbs from sweet potatoes and oats. The latter may have more value in nutrition and satiety, but they will be the same in terms of impact on weight. You can't really have too many carbs. You can have too many calories that are being derived from a high intake of carbs, but carbs are not a foe in weight loss. Control calories while hitting your protein and fat minimums, then use your remaining calories to configure your carbs. Carbs do not cause weight gain. Excess of any macronutrient over your maintenance is what causes weight gain regardless of the type of food.

As long as you're getting the essential amino acids and fatty acids you need it is perfectly fine for the rest of your calories to come from carbs. As long as you eat enough calories and don't have a very restrictive diet, it is very difficult to be deficient in protein or fat.

Are you staying in your calorie limits without being overly hungry?

    If so, then you're good!

If you're constantly battling hunger throughout the day, then might be time to play around with things a bit. Maybe you need to up the fat and/or protein. Maybe more fiber is the key.

But either way, have your carbs.

    They're yummy :)

I guess I was trying to eat complex carbs but yes was worried that too many would cause weight gain or no weight loss. But yes my calories are controlled and my fat and protein is a good balance

Carbs are easy to over indulge in for many people, especially since they're often paired with fats.

Complex carbs often have more overall nutritional value, but simple ones have their place too. It's all about balance.

It's easy for some folks to lower their calorie intake by just cutting out what they consider to be carbs (usually the starchy stuff) and focusing on eating other things. Often, they'll see a big drop in weight at first - this is water weight, and would come back if they go back to eating those same carbs.

You can eat whatever you wish, as long as you stay within your calories.

As long as your fat and protein are right, the carbs do not matter either way (over or under).
