my husband makes me mad

So I have a little rant..I'm fine with my husband wanting to eat like crap and not exercise...well...not really, but it's his choice so whatever. What gets me is him always feeding our kids junk and thinking it's okay. I think eating well is important duh.. My son (6) is a biggish boy, is considered obese, at least that's what the paper he brought home from school said, even though his doctor wasn't concerned about it, he's in the 90th percentile, but he's a healthy boy is what I was told. The thing is this morning for a snack he wanted a banana cut up with that powdered chocolate milk mix on top, um what? yeah that's the way his dad made it for him the other day. My husband is always finding new ways to make food not as good for you, and I'm sick of it!

The 90% doesnt always mean he's obese, it just means that he is heavier than 90% of kids his age..My son is high 90s..for both height and weight..he is not obese by any means, just bigger than other kids.

I'm surprised your son didn't keel over from a heart attack. I mean, that is the epitome of unhealthy. DIVORCE!!!! I say.

would it have been better if he replaced the powdered chocolate for fudge or chocolate frosting or maybe chocolate whey protein?

My kid is 90th something percentile in height and weight. The doctor told me once to watch her diet because they didn't want her to weigh so much. I had her pull up her shirt and show him her 6 pack. It's never been brought up again.

Why not a banana and nutella? Or chocolate flavored applesauce. At least he's eating fruit.

Now I want a banana and nutella. Or with chocolate powder. Must.go.to.grocery.store.

Just to flip that on its head - why on earth would you need to put chocolate on a banana? They are sweet enough.

But then, I am the kind of weirdo who thinks peas re one of the nicest sweet things you can have - but they have to be minutes off the vine though.

You don't NEED to put chocolate on a banana, but if you would like to experience heaven, I recommend it.

    I am gonna need Gatorade.
  • I would let it go and don't make a big issue. Just tell your son "well that's what's on daddy's menu but my Mama's Restsurant menu looks different. Educate your son that even though certain things taste good
They aren't necessarily healthy for your body. Maybe he will learn to make better choices this way.

At least your hubby is throwing in a fruit! :-)

Your husband is a genius! I want to try this now. Seriously, this sounds amazing. I think it's a clever way to get him to eat fruit.

My daughter wasn't chubby but she was a tad overweight for a few years. They grow out of it normally. Just don't let it get out of hand.

    Banana: 110 calories.
    TBSP Nesquik: 45 calories.

If you ask me, that's not too bad for a snack. Pair it with some whole grain toast. Om nom to the nom.

OP, I have a similar rent, but it's not my husband's who the problem, it's the school! We educate our son about good nutrition, feed him nutritious food and the freakin' school gives him hot dogs and cookies for snack! WTF!

Really? That doesn't sound *that* bad. He could've drizzled it in Hersey Chocolate syrup or whipped cream.... but powered chocolate milk? Buy Ovaltine instead.

Who does the shopping? Did you buy the chocolate powder? IF so...guess you can hold some blame! Make sure your son has healthy snacks available and gets plenty of exercise. Let the kid be a kid!! 90% doesn't always mean obese. My daughter has always been in the 95+% for height and weight, she is no where near obese. But if you are concerned - monitor his meals and snacks better and get him moving more!! Then tell your husband you don't like him feeding yoru son junk all the time. There...problem solved.

Nesquik has iron, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and calcium in it. It's like sprinkling a banana with a dusting of sugar and vitamins. Hardly something that is going to harm him.

Next time, though, just do it with protein powder. My kids think muscle milk tastes pretty good in their yogurt or milk or wherever.
