Fitbit vs. Garmin ?

I went to Best Buy fully intending to buy the Garmin, but I became overwhelmed with all of the options between the two brands. Any input good or bad that I could get woulf be appreciated. Thank you so much.

Which Garmin were you looking at? It might be that you're comparing apples and oranges.

Fitbit is a step counter, and a number of models (I have the Charge HR) will detect when you're doing other things like biking and convert those to steps. Fitbit is great if you need incentive to move throughout the day -- for example, I check my Fitbit before lunch at work, and if the step count is low I spend most of my lunch walking.

Garmin started as a GPS company, and most of their watches focus on using the GPS to track specific activities like running. (The Vivofit is a hybrid between this and a step counter) So most Garmins (I have the Forerunner 620) offer a lot more details on your activity, and may offer things like alarms if your pace is too slow or your hr is too high, but very few offer the 24/7 step tracking.

To decide what you want, you need to decide what you expect to get out of it. Are you looking to count steps? Track a specific activity? If so, which one(s)? If you're tracking activities, do you need things like an interval watch? Metrics? HR? Or just basic "this is how far and fast I ran today". Answer those questions and we can help narrow it down.
