How do people stay under their MFP limit for sugar? I find this almost impossible to do while still eating enough fruits and veggies (I'm a huge fan of carrots.. they have SO much sugar though!). Can anyone give me any suggestions of low sugar fruits, or any tips for staying under about 40 g of sugar per day? Thank you!

Eat more green vegetables instead and try to burn at least 200 calories by doing a cardio workout. The workout is a good idea after you have eaten some excess sugar because the sugar gives you more quick energy to workout longer.0

I was running in to that problem and stressing about it enough that if I went over on sugar then I felt like I couldn't complete my calories because I had one number in the red (this was in the very beginning)
Now I have decided that if the majority of my sugar is coming from fruit and veggis (I love apples and ALL vegetables) and not from processed sugar, then I am just not going to stress about it.
I focus mostly on my protein and fiber numbers now and not on sugar.

BUMP.
I was literally just thinking about this. I began incorporating more fruit and veggies into my diet; my mom and i bought all natural fruit cups to eat, especially on the go. However, the sugar content is so high that I am struggling to keep sugar content within my goals. Is this a bad thing? Is too much "natural" sugar bad?0 -
Unless you have a medical reason to monitor your sugar intake, don't worry about it.
Just in case you weren't aware of this feature, when you go to the message boards section, there is a button called search and you can type in a keyword/phrase (ex: sugar) and you can see the threads that have already been created on the topic. Good luck! :flowerforyou:

It's so frustrating! I wish MFP had a category for "processed sugars" and "natural sugars"... It just doesnt make sense to me to be restricting fruits and veggies while dieting, shouldnt they make up the majority of or intake?
But I do agree- it's really discouraging to see any number in the red at the end of the day!0 -
I ran into the same thing -- even after eliminating all processed sugary foods, due to eating more fruit (& veggies). So I switched my settings to monitor Fiber instead of sugar.0

There is no formal recommendation for sugar overall...MFP's recommendation is based on the American Heart Association's and WHO's recommendation for ADDED SUGAR because people guzzle ****in' soda pop like it's water. Eat your fruit, it's good for you. Also, don't track sugar unless you have some medical reason to do so. Manage your macros, not your micros.0 -
There are fruits with lower sugar than others. Grapes have much more sugar than apples, and red delicious and Macintosh apples have more sugar than Pippin apples. Also, make sure you limit your starchy vegetables. Eat broccoli, asparagus, and green beans.0

The sugar tracker is useless, as it doesn't distinguish between natural and processed sugar. I don't use it, I track something else instead.0

Whether you think excess fruit sugar is a problem for you is largely individual.Also, don't track sugar unless you have some medical reason to do so.0 -

The FDA recommended daily sugar allotment is a guideline! You do not have to concern yourself with the quantity of sugar you eat unless your body has issues with producing insulin.

I don't even bother tracking it. My fruit smoothie alone probably triples my "limit." I'm not giving up fruit for some arbitrary number. I'm not diabetic.0

Or maybe they should just eat less ****...I don't think all the diabetes is due to an apple a day keeps the doctor away. At least for my dad, it was having like five 32 oz big gulps per day. If you're doing that, you're just stupid.0 -

Why...if most of your sugar is coming from fruit? I just think there are much more beneficial things to track that don't give people the Oh Noes...
If you're eating a balanced diet and managing your macros, there's really no reason to micro manage your micro-nutrients unless you have a specific medical condition (why I track sodium). If you're properly managing your macro-nutrients and have those in balance, things tend to take care of themselves.0 -
A good way to stay under your Sugars is click on "Goals" then click on the button labeled "CHANGE GOALS" Then click the radio button next to "Custom" then click the button labelled "CONTINUE"
To the right of "Sugars" you'll find a text-box. In there enter something like "1000" then click the button labelled "CHANGE GOALS"
That should make it easy to stay under your Sugars.0 -

I have been pre-diabetic so I do monitor my sugar. However, after seeing this suggestion on another board, I decided to create a category specifically called veggies and fruit. That way I can see at a glance how much of my sugar is really fruit and vegetables. Since the majority of my sugar intake is fruits and vegetables I don't worry about it.0

.....is a good song by System of a Down. Sorry, I couldn't help myself! That's the first thing I thought of. In all seriousness, I don't worry about my natural sugar intake (from fruit, etc). I usually avoid refined sugar though. To each their own.0

Sugar is GOOD for you! Eat it and eat a lot! But try to make sure it comes from WHOLE FOODS, not bread and cookies. Keep fat under 10% of total calories, protein around 10%, and carbs around 80% (with a LOT of sugar from fruits, veggies, rice, etc) and then get your butt out there and MOVE (cycling, running, dancing, playing with your kids, whatever). Don't clog your system up with animal products, so do this vegan style and you'll succeed. Trust me, it is working for me, and it has worked for EVERYONE who does it this way 100%. And you're never hungry! How can you be when you slam down 10 bananas in a single sitting?0

I took the sugar meter off of my list and many other people have done the same thing, otherwise it will just drive you crazy trying to stay under it. I also stopped counting veggies toward the sugar count.
That was about 2 months ago, now I'm 100% vegan and about 95% raw so I eat mainly fruits and veggies. It's nothing for me to have 200 - 300 grams of carbs / sugars in a day and I'm still losing weight so I wouldn't put too much pressure on yourself to stay under that sugar count.

My sugar intake is pretty low, I do try to avoid processed sugar in foods and limit fruit to a serve a day (and eat lots of veggies to compensate!).
But even then my sugar can go over the MFP recommendations slightly. Not every day.
As for monitoring sodium...My sodium intake is always over, but as my systolic blood pressure is always 105-110 so I'm not too worried. My diastolic BP reading at the doctor's yesterday was 48 (!).0
