FitBit and myfitnesspal, getting the right calorie goals

I have used myfitnesspal for about two years, and I received a fitbit a year ago from a contest I took part in. I've synced the two and now I think myfitnesspal is overestimating the calories I should intact as the fitbit enters "exercise" for basic daily steps and ups the calorie intact for basic living. I have myfitnesspal activity level set to "slightly active" which has worked in the past. If I'm syncing with fitbit should I set the activity level to "sedentary"? That way each step would add on top of my basal metabolic rate instead of myfitnesspal already estimating some of that?

That's what I do and it tends to be accurate for me.0
