The folks that I've talked to that are avoiding gluten (most due to intolerance) are buying foods that are naturally gluten free, rather than trying to buy the same things, just the gluten-free alternatives.

Unfortunately going gluten-free has become a trendy thing and that will drive up prices. :(

No, it's because making gluten-free substitutes is expensive. Almond flour, for example, is heaps more $$ than wheat flour. Same with coconut flour, quinoa flour, etc.

OP - The FODMAPs diet is tough but useful for people with gastrointestinal problems that are undiagnosed. If you are doing it because of food intolerances and as a suggestion by your physician, you should ask for a consultation with a registered dietitian who can give you a hand.

Actually, the trendiness of gluten free food has actually brought costs down while increasing both the variety and increased the quality of gluten free foods available.

Amazon has tons of GF stuff, they were my source back when I spent a few months GF. (Didn't help me as much as it helped other family members.)
