What do you do with too big clothes?

So I bet a lot of you are experiencing the same thing as me--not having a lot of clothes to wear because you lost weight! I was wondering what you guys do with your clothes that no longer fit. Do you donate them to charity, give them to friends, or sell them? I've been selling some of mine to name brand thrift clothing shops and using the money I made to buy some new clothes! Also as far as buying new clothes, how long do you wait to buy them? I've heard when you still have a bit of weight to lose the best thing is buy stretchy clothes that shrink with you.

I can't wait to get to that stage!! However, I know that my maternity wear got upcycled- made into fancy schmancy clothes, bags, toys even! Thinking of selling my clothes as "Pre Loved" when they manage to outgrow me!

    Also, congratulations on this NSV!!

I donated mine. All of my friends WERE leaner than I was so nobody to give them to and I don't have time to try and sell a few pairs of old jeans that probably needed to be retired anyway. I guess If I had some really nice stuff maybe I'd try to sell, but I'm pretty much a jeans and t-shirt guy.

What a good plan to re-sell them!

I just drop all mine off at goodwill, but I don't have a lot of fancy brand name stuff...

I haven't lost any inches yet so I haven't had the joy of buying new stuff yet!

Oh interesting, I never thought of upcycling. :)

Might be a silly question but I'm new here...what's NSV?

I gave mine away as soon as I could. I didn't want any around for "just in case". I am never going back to the old size ever.

Believe it or not "name-brand" stores have bought my Target and Wal-mart clothes.... I was shocked.

I donate them to the Airmen's Attic (resource for lower ranking military who don't get paid NEARLY what they're worth) or donate them to the local rescue mission

When I was broke, I sold them at consignment shops for the extra money. Not only did I make extra money, but I got a huge boost out of selling size 20s and 22s and having the ladies be in shock that I'd been that big!

I gave them to people who also lost weight when I could. I also donated a lot to charity. In the early months of weight loss I bought a lot of clothes at thrift stores, just because there was no sense in spending a lot of money when I knew in another 4-6 weeks my current clothes would be way to big. I still shop at thrift stores. I can find some great bargains!!!

Haha yeah some of mine I held on to too long but then I was like "I am never letting myself get back into that size" so I sold them and bought some new clothes that fit. :)

I've been donating them to charity.

I'm getting by with just a few pairs of shorts, denim skirts, and tops this summer.

I'm definitely going to have to spend some serious money on new clothing for fall.

I'm hoping I'll be able to fit into an XL at one or more of the mainstream clothing stores so that I'll have more shopping options by then. (I'm wearing a plus-sized 1X right now.)

I donated the clothes that no longer fit to Goodwill and then went around front and bought clothes that did until my weight stabilized. Once my body decided it was done shrinking I went outlet shopping to get a new wardrobe started.

Give them to the Salvation Army. Let them benefit someone else, and enjoy going to get new ones. I did my first round clean out in May 2013, and looking forward to doing it again. So far I have gone from Size 20 pants, and 22/24 Tops to a size 14 pants, and 13/14 tops.

Ohhh ok! Thank you!! :) I don't give myself enough credit for all the progress I made. I'm just always like "need to do better" but when I stop and think about it, it took a lot of willpower for me to do all the things I've done to get where I'm at. To see some single digit clothing numbers is awesome!

After my first pregnancy i sold all my xxxl materinity clothes because i told myself that by the time i had another kid, i was going to need a much smaller size. But then 3 years later i was pregnant again and still the same size and had to buy more maternity clothes.

That said, I have always kept my fat clothes just in case I needed them again. And I always have. But this time i WILL NOT NEED THEM AGAIN. So I will sell some at a rummage sale I am having next month and probably donate the rest...the shirts anyway. My pants always get the bottoms frayed because the sizes that fit my waiste are 6 inches too long, and my thighs rub together so i get holes there too so i throw those out.

There are more pregnancies in my future, so I kept some of the "in-between" stuff, but made sure I ditched my highest weight clothes, save one pair of pants for comparison. A healthy pregnancy with me at this starting weight - I shouldn't be able to fit my post-preggo clothes from last year even when I'm 9 months pregnant!

I've donated most of mine- but I totally love the idea of getting store credit for trade at the high-end resellers... I will have to check that out. :) Thanks for the idea!

Just recently, I donated a lot of my pre-weight loss, pre-retirement clothing to DRESS FOR SUCCESS. It's an organization I REALLY admire, and they always have a need for professional clothing for large women.

I'm happy to think that my unusable clothing goes to women who can use it to improve their circumstances by making themselves more employable.

No problem! The local ones we have here are Uptown Cheapskate and Plato's Closet, I know they are franchises so you might have one in your area.

Most tops still fit ok, but I donated any bottoms that could come off without unzipping them.

Yeah I've been the same way for the most part, shirts fit a little looser but still fit. But jeans pretty much quit fitting when I lose 10 pounds.

If they are cute or expensive enough I take them in (I sew). If not, I see what my fat sisters want out the pile, and I haul the rest to Goodwill.

For my shorts I just sewed them on the sides a little. Others I just donated.

Because of where I was working, I had to look nice every day at work (business casual).

I gave a few brand new suits/bras to a co-worker/friend, everything else went to charities. I bought a few items (2-3 pairs of dress slacks/3 blouses) every time I dropped a size because clothes bagging off you doesn't look professional and I worked in a market room/investor area which even though we did not see investors, we mingled with top executives often.

I've donated most of mine to charity. I've kept a couple of skirts that I love, were expensive, and I didn't get to wear very much - hoping to get them altered.
