I am not sure why I am writing this, as I am usually a fairly private person but in any event here goes....

I am 42, overweight (275 lbs / 6"1), I've recently acquired a personal trainer whom I met with for the first time today. I felt so embarrassed at just how out of a shape I am, he seemed understanding and insisted we'll just take it one step at a time. He seemed fairly knowledgeable and supportive.

I've been married for 22 years to a very wonderful woman and recently I took a long hard look at myself and did not like what I saw. My wife whom is 155 lbs, say's I don't look fat; but I feel it. I feel the shortness of breath when i walk up a couple flight of stairs, doctor recently told me I was prediabetic. Yet, I have time to change all that with proper exercise and nutrition she says; I believe her.

In the past week I've really invested quit a bit of money into this life changing ordeal, in excess of $1,000.00, through gym memberships, personal trainer 2xW for 3 months, supplements, attires, etc. It adds up. 20 years ago I was in phenomenal shape, I have realistic goals and I know I will most likely not be in the shape I was in my 20's, but i'd like to lose 40-50 lbs in 6-8 months and strength train. I've adopted a day by day mentality where as as long as I am moving toward this goal, I am satisfied with my results.

In any event, that's me and this is my journey....

Chris

day by day.. is the only way. also know that a journey doesn't end. look at this as a forever thing. work out because it is good for your body not because you want to lose weight. also. i suggest to look at the success stories forum. it is sooooo motivating. some of these people lost over 100 lbs. they stuck with it and persisted - the only way to weight loss.

also. i'm the type that prefers to only create a small deficit and not hundreds and hundreds of cals. the transition to maintenance is MUCH easier that way

:) welcome to this journey friend! there is going to be hard times and amazingly easy times. But remember you are human and you will make mistakes. Just forgive yourself and keep exercising on and in the end you will reach your goal!! Just take it day by day.
