At the beginning of last month I finally got on my bike after not doing any serious type of riding for possibly about 20 years... They say you never forget how to ride a bike and I will agree with that old adage. In adding my bike to my exercise routine I have found it helping to make better gains in my weight loss. One of the reasons for this is the fact that your legs are biggest muscles and truly engaging them by riding can help you truly shade some pounds/kilograms.
If you do decide to get back on your bike, or to buy a new bike, from my own personal experience from the early 1980s when prepared for my cross country journey of a lifetime - gained some valuable beginner cyclist learns from experience.
I just read the following article in Bicycling Magazine - called The First Timers:
"During their inaugural year of riding, people soak up enormous amounts of knowledge about how to ride--often by making blunders. Here, some notes from the steepest slope on the learning curve, and a guide to avoiding common rookie mistakes." As I read this article on the basis of four different rookie riders, I could remember the experiences I went through many years ago. If you are just starting out ... Have fun and ride away those pounds..
