Palm Oil - Opinions?

I'd like to start eating palm oil - the unrefined red kind - and was wanting to know if anyone has had it, what they thought about it, and how it tasted to them. Would it be something to cook eggs in? Thanks....

Yeah, I know about that. I'm sourcing from a place that doesn't do that. So, have you ever had any palm oil? What's it taste like?0 -
I don't think I've ever had it on it's own. I've been trying to get it out of my diet, but it's in almost everything!0

*cough* Really? Who is "responsibly" producing Palm Oil? I think it would be good for people to know from whom to buy it.0 -

I'm not here to justify my decision. I asked a question, and if you don't want to answer it, then that's fine. I've done my research and have found places that are ethically acceptable to me. I'm not going to respond to posts with this attitude anymore.
Edit: Sourcing from West African operations. No f*cking orangutans there.0 -
I've never had the unrefined red, I have used refined in the past. I have heard the unrefined oil has a really distinct flavor and odor. From what I understand, it's best with things that have a strong flavor of their own.
Refined palm is pretty boring. Not a favorite.0 -

If you must use your palm. Oil can help.0

I haven't used palm oil but a friend of mine uses it regularly. The only other oils she uses is coconut and olive oils. Try the oil and see if you like it. They have a shortening made with it as well. It's a lot healthier than canola or vegetable oils.0

Deforestation is less important than you are. Use as much palm oil as you want. You're excellent.0 -

You know what? I was trying to get info out to the MFP Masses. You know how important they are to the Global Economy.
Could you please site source for your alleged S.African produced Palm Oil? Because, I'm sure people here are socially conscious and want to do the right thing.
Don't know why you are so combative.
Orangs have been pushed out of their habitat and are endangered. Too bad you don't care about that.
But, by all means, have a nice stir-fry

I thought it was a bad oil. It's in everything and I've been trying to avoid it. I'm just curious to know why someone would choose to consume it. What are the benefits?0

I DO care about that, that's why I'm getting my oil (maybe - haven't decided yet) from a continent that doesn't have orangutans as a native species.
Thanks for telling me what I care and do not care about.
Anyone with a bit of time can find a fair-trade and ethical source for this product. You know that.
So, have you ever tried the stuff? What's it like?0 -

You've had the stuff. Don't act all coy and innocent. Anyone in the U.S. has had Palm Oil.
I looked. I didn't find a sustainable way to produce/sell Palm Oil in Africa.
GIVE US a name, please - so we will know where to buy it.

You know what? I'm not going to because there is no such thing as sustainable palm oil in your mind. That's fine.0 -
I know nothing about red palm oil, but I've been using coconut oil and I love it. Also supposed to be a healthy fat and tolerates high temperatures in cooking better than olive oil. Also no worries about it going rancid like olive oil.0
