Fitbit question

I bought a Fitbit one today. It works great on the walking and elliptical I did today. But I am trying to figure out how to use it for weight lifting and swimming. Can I just take of the fitbit during the activity, wear my heart rate monitor to get the number of calories burned and enter that number on mfp?

You got it! FBO for 'step-based' stuff, HRM for other (e.g. strength-based, water-based, etc.)

You didn't say which fitbit you bought. If you have the fitbit flex wristband you can wear it in the water. I sync my fitbit (flex) with their website and go in daily and tell it what I have done. It tells me the steps, calories burned and etc. I don't use it for MFP, I use MFP for my exercise. I wear it to aqua aerobics all the time. I don't think it will work for weight lifting.

You don't need to take it off (except for swimming - take it off for that since it's not waterproof). Either use the timer or just make note of your start and end time. Then when you log the exercise using the calories from your HRM and entering your start and stop time it will override the fitbit data.

I have the Fitbit One, so swimming with it is out. I don't use it for weight lifting, because it only catches steps and weight lifting has few steps, but, lots of calories burned.

Now I just have to figure out how many of the calories fitbit shows I can eat. I have it set for one pound a week, but, I think that gives me too many calories. With entering calories myself on MFP I set it as inactive (though I am very active) and for losing 1 pound a week. Then I left 200-300 on the table every day. What do I do now?
  • I'm using the fitbit to log all of those extra walking steps that you just don't have recorded when you use only MFP. It gives you a more accurate look at what you are burning. I am wondering if my Fitbit is giving me a little extra, like the previous users said, but I'm going to hold out another week before any modifications. You can edit and go from -500 calories to -750 if you are eating your fitbit calories and are not losing weight.
