Ok so get the basics, try and find green ticked entries closest to the facts, look out for branded stuff etc. but party last night with mixtures of things from buffet plus a piece of birthday cake! Didn't eat very much but had no idea how to log. 4x Becks blue - boring as f... had to leave early once everyone started talking sh..e, I mean, that's normally me talking sh..e at that time of night - struggling with dry January 2016 and another big test next week too.. any tips welcome (hiding not an option)

Log it as best you can and move on. Today is a new day!0

Don't get too hung up on it. When at parties, eat what you can. If it is a carry in party, take what you can eat, there will be plenty of other stuff for others. If you can't log it all because you don't know ingredients, do the best you can. For example, meatballs. I search meatballs and chose one with the medium number of calories so I'm in the ballpark. Good Luck!0

As long as this isn't an every day occurrence, you'll be fine.0 -
Usually I log the food items I remember, then add a few hundred "quick add" calories to make up for what I probably missed. Get back to the deficit today and moving forward and try not to feel too bad about it.0

Good for you for abstaining. I gave up alcohol at the end of 2015 also, and am not looking back. (For me it causes more problems than just the calories.) As far as logging, I suck at that, so I'm no help. I would log as misc calories myself.0

An aside: It's interesting how obnoxious some drinkers are when you view them through the sober looking glass, isn't it?

ha I stay away from the verified foods... too many errors when I've logged.Flab2Fab27 wrote: »
A bit maddening...but it is what it is at the moment. Just try and find something close and log and move on.

Nobody checks them it's some kind of automatic algorithm
There's entries like a plate of Chinese food that has a verified calorie count
And solid foods with calories per ml
I wouldn't trust any entry on MFP without double checking against other databases tbh0 -
AH that trough cracked me up!!0

I just log as best I can for buffets, parties, etc. I err on the large size when estimating portions, but I tend to gain a little after eating at them (especially since on weekends my husband likes to go out to eat 2 days in a row), so maybe I'm not over-estimating.
If it's a situation where it won't be totally rude or weird (ie, around my family who is already used to me being strange), I will snap a pic of my plate with my phone, to help me log it later.0
