Apparently my last comment doesn't make sense so edited for supplements vs food Gif...

The Dolph in this movie was my first true love. :sigh: such a hunk.

I guess you could live like that. Getting all your nutrients like that seems stupid though. Your body can only absorb so much at a time, the rest you are going to pee out, so your not actually getting everything in the vitamin. That being said who knows where you will be nutritionally.

Nutritionally I would think if all you are eating is junk (and you are meeting your calorie intake that way) then taking supplements would allow your body to function better than without the supplements but there is some stuff for instance fibre that your body needs. You can't get that in a pill.

There are plenty of "diets" out there that do pretty much what you have said. They are fortified with all the stuff you need to stay functionally healthy (ie your hair does not fall out and you don't suffer tooth loss/organ failure).

However as I stated earlier what you are eating now affects your body in years to come. In the long term you are damaging your body by eating in this way and not a balanced diet.

They are called "supplements" for a reason, to supplement what you are missing in your diet. They're not called "replacements." You need to eat REAL food

Bit of a left field question! I'm with the 'why would you want to?' answers. I think that supplements are called that as they are in addition to those that you get from food. I believe that the body can absorb more from food than it gets from supplements, all to do with genetics.

Isn't the latest new "research" thing that supplements are all a bunch of crap? That the majority on the market don't really do jack other than the placebo effect.

However, I know a couple that lived off vits for a while. I'd estimate they both gained around 1-3st a piece after coming off it  .... Mmmm nutella & pancakes

Yes, I think you probably could but I wouldn't call it 'healthy'. Also, better make sure you don't have any pre-existing conditions like prediabetes/diabetes or any other metabolic malfunction or your plan could equal suicide

I don't have the science, I'm not sure this has been fully looked into, but considering that nutritional science and research is still ongoing we just dont know everything there is to know about what is a healthy diet. From that, you could conclude that there are likely things missing from supplements, that we only get from diet, that researchers might have missed or just plain not know about. In which case a nutritionally sparse diet with supplementation likely wouldn't give you everything you needed.

I know people with worse diets. I reckon a healthy (as in non-diebetic, no thyroid problems, no IBS etc) teenager could live very well off this for a while without too much trouble. Biggest problem I can see is that you'd be taking in too many of your calories through sugar and flour, which would eventually catch up on you. Have you read about the guy (I think it was in VICE) who created a beige protein/vitamin goop to live off instead of food?
