Dumb Question about eating and calories..

Hey y'all! So I have been doing carb cycling and it has really worked for me. Problem is that it is kind of frustrating sometimes as I have to make different meals for myself than for my family, specifically on low carb days. I also work full time so I would prefer to make us the same food. So I have been reading some posts about just burning more calories than you consume and I am debating on stopping the carb cycling and trying that. Does that really work?? LoL like I said, it is a dumb question. I have about 150 lbs to lose and I just want to lose it in a healthy way. If it is really that easy it will make it a whole heck of a lot easier on me when it comes to preparing meals for my family..

If you are in a calorie deficit, you will lose weight. Use a food scale. btw, I don't make separate meals. It just means my family eats a bit healthier than they might have otherwise. They don't care. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10257474/starting-out-restarting-basics-inside#latest

If carb cycling doesn't work for your lifestyle, then don't do it. Aside from health conditions that require a low-carb diet there's really no reason to do it. Eat what your family eats, just log it accurately and make it fit into your calorie goals. I tend to add a leafy salad or big pile of broccoli/green beans with whatever the rest of the family is eating.

Ive done lo carb programs and seem to do better at the calorie counting as for me, it suits my lifestyle better and so I can sustain it for the rest of my life - nothing is off limits, and it does (IMHO) teach you a lot about portion control, which can get out of control when certain foods are either completely off limits or restricted, or "free". And of course it has a big beneficial effect on your cooking for the whole family.

I tried low carb and it really didn't fit my lifestyle or my partners lifestyle. It sounds like you may be in the same boat. I have been doing portion control and ensuring all meals fit into my calorie goal and I've been losing weight steadily. Yes it works, and I haven't had to overhaul my lifestyle or my partners lifestyle to do it. I eat what I want and what we have on hand, and just portion it to fit my calorie goal. It's not difficult or overwhelming once you get the hang of it.
