Packaged soup calories... volume, weight?

I'm very confused. I don't know if I should go by weight or volume.

I've been buying that grocery store soup that is sold in a 2 cup container, with a serving size of 1 cup (245g), but weighs close to 590g.

I always use weight when it's available, but this brand is constantly over and I'm getting really annoyed at how many calories my 'low calorie soups' have been clocking at... and considering it's supposed to be a volume food, it's just confusing.

Another brand is always less than 2 servings weight-wise. I know it's only a 50 calories difference, but still, it's pretty annoying.

So, how would you log it?

    Weight.

You know labels can be off by a percentage. Maybe it's annoying, but that's how the cookie crumbles. I think I've only ever had 1 package of something that was 100% correct on weight.

I would love to know the brand if it's sold in the US. I never thought that could happen with soup.
Plain oatmeal is the worst for me. 1/2 cup is actually closer to 1/4 real serving weight. All cereals are bad also.

It's the Shop Rite brand. Trader Joe's and Wegmans are usually a bit under the 245g serving size.

1 cup weighs 590g? That's some pretty damn dense soup.

I think she means the whole thing is supposed to be 490 (for 2 cups) but is really 590.

I bought something similar from Safeway when I was staying with my parents over Christmas, and I recall some of them being labeled as 2.5 servings per container (but that's probably not relevant). I didn't weigh it, because my parents don't have a scale (and I wasn't logging anyway).

Anyway, I'd go by weight, of course.
