Adding foods to My Food

Is there a way to search the food database, find a match, and then assign it to "My Food" list? So far, I have only been able to create a food from scratch (tested: almonds  ) to add to My Food. I appreciate the Food tracking page offering recent and frequent food search options, but I really want to load up my "My Food" list with my choices.

Tonight, I came home from the grocery store loaded down with good choices. It would have been so easy to just log the products and nutritional values into MFP while bringing them out of the bags/sacks prior to putting them up.

I am a firm MFP convert, but I did like the option to do the above in other online plans. TIA

The My Foods list was not designed or intended as a place for copying public Food Database items. It will display the food items you create, or the public food items you may have edited (until another user edits the public item and the other user then becomes the "owner" of that food item and it drops from your list).

Please see this article, and search for other helpful articles, on the MFP Help pages...

Thanks much for your explanation. I just realized that when I was trying to add a food from my Recents list, I had not clicked the drop-down option for ALL and it was defaulting to my last menu (i.e., Breakfast). I do have to say that this is more convenient, but what would be a better option is:
    • Searching for a food
    • Finding the correct nutrition profile
    • Before adding it to a meal, ALSO providing a checkbox that allows "add to my favorites"

Forgot to clarify, my question was NEVER to copy public Food DB items. I ALWAYS enter a product name in MFP, verify the correct nutrient profile, and add it to my meal. In my opinion, MFP is the best source for correct food profiles. I was not questioning MFP's food database, and rarely find a need to look elsewhere. As a "seasoned multi-time tracking loser", I know that eventually I (and others) get down to a fairly systematic selection of the same foods that we like and, more importantly, let us lose weight.

(FYI - I am a Premium member so I will not comment on "a place for copying public Food Database items.")
