Most of the people on this site got into the position of needing to lose weight by eating what they 'liked'.
If you are looking to lose weight or make better/healthier choices, you're going to need to start eating other things too. You can of course still eat chicken patties and pizza, but you need to factor it into your daily calorie intake. If that is too hard, then try other things that the cafeteria provides. It may not be a case of what you like, but what is necessary to a healthy or calorie controlled diet.

Do you have any cooking resources at all? Kitchen in the dorm? Microwave? Hot plate?

Are you required to eat your meals in the caf? I know some schools here require freshmen to buy a meal plan in advance, which limits their choices unless they want to throw that money away.

I've noticed the more you eat healthy food the better it tastes. Like the first time you order a salad and think meh... But if you don't give in to cravings and keep ordering healthy food you actually begin to crave the healthy stuff. It changes your taste buds until one day you get that salad and it was exactly what you were wanting.

I often keep a lot of "desk food" at work so as to stay within my calorie goals: Things like sardines in tins with Wheat thins, protein bars, sugar free fruit packs (30 calories/pack for pineapple), and cans of soup: I really like the Campbell's Homestyle brand: 240-260 calories/can and they are filling.

Thank you for the advice! I think I will be replacing my lunch with tasty soups!
