Running in Vegas

I will be spending the last week of January in Vegas for work and would like to run in the mornings. I am staying at the Westin which is right by the strip. Are there any safe routes around that area? Any places I should avoid while running? My general goal in life is to not get hobo shanked. I am looking for routes of at least 6 miles upward toward 10 or more.

I know lots of people run on the Strip but the surrounding areas can be sketchy. Not sure if you use Yelp but a question on the Vegas board would probably get you an answer.

It has been a long time since I was there but I ran the strip every morning. There are very few people out and around before say 10 a.m. Light traffic made the street crossings easy.

If you have transportation I imagine there are some good runs outside of town but I flew in and out and was on foot while there.

you could check out mapmyrun or runkeeper for routes. I'm sure there are others. or check to see if there is a running group and see if they have advice

You could always ask the Westin front desk when you arrive for their advice.

I've never found anything good. I usually run down the strip, depending on where my hotel is, to Tropicana Ave. or Flamingo Rd. and turn away from the freeway on one of those streets. Then I go down to the UNLV campus and run around that, and back the other way. It is not very far. But I have never felt threatened or gotten lost.

Run down the strip..avoid the areas off the strip. Running on the strip is enjoyable for sure. Just go into a casino if you need water and ask one of the waiters  I miss living in vegas.

Keep to the Strip and you'll be fine. The parallel streets are not very safe for running as there aren't any walkways, much less jogging tracks. Hit south of LVB, running towards Mandalay Bay (about 2.5 miles) and Town Square (about 4 miles). North of LVB is a little dicey if you're not in a car. If you have time, try and get a run at the Springs Preserve, or Downtown Las Vegas. If this helps at all, here's the course for 2016 Rock n Roll Marathon in LV.
