7-day cabbage soup

has anyone tried a variation of this ? i'm 24 hours post-op and don't have much of an appetite anyway, so thought i could do this during recovery . i love that i can have as much cabbage soup as i want, therefore my munchies should go away . the problem is knowing i can't have more that makes the munchies worse haha
better than eating takeaway or finding what's around the house - generally junk and a lot of carbs since i don't live alone :P
i will be making a big batch today and giving it a go for 7 days . i'm doing this with my housemate and if either of us flubs a day, that's a 50$-penalty fee haha

Isn't it important that you get extra calories and nutrition so your body can heal itself post-op? That would be the opposite of what this diet promotes.0

If you're post-op, cutting calories is the last thing you should be doing. Your body needs calories to heal. I totally get the appeal of easy food to grab when you're hungry, but not only will this not give you the calories you need, the cabbage influx may lead to uhm... "gastric distress", which depending on what type of op you had may cause strain.
I'd not recommend it.0 -
If you are post-op, you need to be fueling yourself to aid the healing process. Leave the calorie deficit for after you've healed.0

I'd not recommend it.
Soups are great if you cannot eat solid food. You would be better off going with a cream soup that has more calories.0 -
You're going to create more problems from the GI issues post op.0

thanks for all the comments . yeah, i can't stomach much food and strong smells make me nauseous so that's why i thought cabbage soup would be okay since it's a soup and supposedly bland . chewing hurts like a mrmvrdhm since my throat is dry and sore . i am a great believer in water but i had a sip of water yesterday and it got messy and disgusting lol . juice got the same result . but i'm happy i got my tubes tied
i'll look into the cream soup, thanks .0 -
I hope you can drink water or juice today. If you are not getting anything in, I would eat ice cream so you can get at least something in your body.
Cream soups can have a lot of sodium. Drink extra water. Wait, you are not drinking water.
I have had two surgeries and had trouble with bowel movements (you'll see). Drink some water or juice.0 -
I just started this diet and so far I'm counting down the days until I get some type of protein. Day one I've eaten 4 halo oranges, one apple and a bowl of soup and I'm sitting here at work starving. The food doesn't hold me over long at all. But I'm sticking it out. Hopefully veggie day isn't too killer.0

Why would you stick with something that is making you so miserable?0 -

This is my question too. Weight loss doesn't mean you have to be miserable or starving.0 -
The cabbage soup diet is horrible idea even when you aren't healing from post op. Add in the fact that you are healing and need extra calories to heal, then no, you shouldn't be doing it. Not to mention, any weight you lose will likely be put back on once you go off of it.0

Honestly, I'd just make a nice vegetable soup filled with a lot of different vegetables and at least one grain (rice, barley, quinoa, etc.) and some lentils. It's more balanced and will taste better.0

This^
The cabbage soup diet has been around for decades. All that tomato day in and day out....really acidic. Low fat & low protein....not a good idea.0 -

OP what does the doctor say about what you are doing???0
-
7 day cabbage soup all day every day. Need recipe now.0
-
That sounds awful and terribly unhealthy. You need protein. I don't know why people think they have to go through such torture to lose weight.0
-
The people I know who have done this diet have all pooped a lot, lost weight and then immediately gained it all back as soon as the diet was over.0

OP what does the doctor say about what you are doing???
^^This^^ My husband had surgery to remove part of his colon. All the medical people during this process have stressed that a high protein diet is critical to healing. The recommendation was 1 1/2 times what a healthy person needed. You need to discuss this with your surgeon. Once you are healed there is plenty of time to experiment (and research) what might work best for you.0 -
What a bad idea.
OP - it's been more than 7 days now. How did it go? Was it 7 days to a new you? @bbilliethecat0 -

How many calories are you getting per day from this?
You don't need to suffer in order to lose weight. I'm only hungry right before meals.0 -

oh yea extremly important. I have had many surgeries and everytime they have me to eat as many calories as I can to ensure my body can heal. Usually if i dont have an appitie I will eat a lot of mashed potatoes and gravy or rice...... To OP, Healing is not a good time to try to lose weight or try a fad diet. At least make soup with a good bone broth lots of protien and other good stuff.0 -

^This! Eat and heal. Not the time to worry about cutting calories.0
