How do I log?

I work in a school and during term times I have my lunch provided. I try to steer myself to the healthier options but I have no idea how to log the food. I don't have access to the recipes and wouldn't be able to take a scale to weigh the salad (if that was what I chose). Does anyone have any ideas?

    You don't have to precisely log everything to be successful.
    Make your best guess at it by selecting similar items, be consistent and then adjust your calorie goal based on actual results over an extended period of time.

    Although weighing food is hugely educational on choices and portion sizes it doesn't have to be forever or every morsel that passes your lips.

    Things like the typical tossed salad are so low in calories that even a wild guess is close enough. Most of the calories are in the dressing so be very conscious of what you put on a salad. The dressing can triple or quadruple the calories of the salad.
