I currently have a bmi of 47 and want to shift it without surgery. I have looked into low calorie meal plans such as diet chef and am planning on giving it a go. Is it a good ide or in fact safe to drop from my current diet of about 3000+ calories to 1200 a day ? Will it benefit my weight loss or just freak my body out or worse put me in danger whilst I am still this size. Thanks

Don't cut your calories by more than half if you were eating over 3000.....cut slowly and weigh yourself and adjust accordingly. No need to crash diet. Depends on you stats, but I wouldn't drop that drastically that fast

    A few questions:

Have you discussed a drastic reduction in calories with a doctor and/or dietitian? (Not that you have to, I'm just curious if the idea came from somewhere.)
Your profile indicates that you originally joined in 2012. Did you find that entering your stats into MFP and following your calorie goal didn't work for you?
If so, what made it difficult?
Do you like to/are you able to cook for yourself?
Do you have a lot of disposable income?

There are many youtube videos out there that comment on this diet.
Pretty much, you can make the foods yourself and save a lot of money. Buy frozen chicken breasts and frozen veggie bags, etc. It could save you a serious fortune.
