    Talk to your physical therapist.

Ooh. Wicked. What mgalvin said- You should be seeing a PT before and after surgery, to help you prepare and recover. If you aren't, get your surgeon to recommend one.

Probably it'll just be like walking or recumbent bike, etc. Your bad vertebrae are where mine are bad, too, and I'm sure you've noticed how they affect so, so many activities.

I don't know though. Maybe you'll have a protective brace after surgey. ??? I can do more with my soft brace on. But of course your surgeon will have to advise you about what it'll be like as far as suggestions or limitations. Be super careful!

So can your pt give you exercises safe during recovery?

I had a artificial disc placed at the c5-c6 level a year ago this month & I was moving around same day as surgery. I was taking down xmas lights of the roof. I started back at working out a week after surgery. The artificial disc replacement gives you full range of motion. I didnt have to go to physical therapy after surgery.

You have to do what you feel your body can handle. Talk to your surgeon.

My husband just had surgeries on each side of his neck and towards his shoulder. After each one exercise has been a challenge. He mostly has been walking but even then it puts a lot of pressure on his incisions so he can't do much. I would definitely talk to the doctor but then just listen to your body. Don't push it while you're recovering.

I believe the point was to consult with your PT afterwards in RE to what you can and can't do.
