Eh, how can I gain lbs but lose inches?!

I'm on my 2nd week of my new lifestyle.

I weigh myself everyday and use an app which gives me an average rate of loss depending on the trend of what I'm recording.

I also measure my waist, hips, back and arm weekly at the same time in cm.

The first week I lost 3lbs but my measurements stayed roughly the same.

This week, for the last 4 days I have gained 2lbs. I've been logging and weighing food etc?!

Today though I have lost an inch off both my waist and hips, and 1cm off both my arm and back.

Now I'm fairly certain that the inch loss is fat because I don't gain or lose weight off of my arm or back quickly at all. Those areas aren't affected by water retention or what I've eaten. Yeyyy!

So how can it be that I've put weight on? The only trigger I can think of is that I did some heavyish weights for me with a barbell on Tuesday. After that my weight went up.

Until that point my exercise has been 50 mins of fast walking 5 days a week.

Just interested in the science of what's gone on!

I don't care what I weigh as long as I Shrink but I've got like 80lbs to lose so I'd expect to weigh a bit less each week?

Weight loss isn't linear is the science part

Patience and using your trend app over 6-8 week cycles is the answer

Thanks for the replies. I've read that link and I think there's two things maybe affecting it - my legs have only just repaired from the 5x5 routine I did on Tuesday, and it could be hormones (I'm due on my period soon!).

So I'll hang on in there. It's hard being patient haha, I guess I don't really believe in myself yet, 80lbs+ feels impossible. That's why I usually get annoyed and jack it in. Not this time, I will stick to it.

It isn't. I lost 60 pounds when I started in fifteen months. Using a weight tracking application will smooth these daily fluctuations out and as you progress, it will give you a better snapshot of how on track you are.

Over time you will see that your scale weight bounces around

Here's my las year, although I've been in maintenance for most but have lost around 53lbs in total ...you can see the grey line just wiggling away that's normal as a result of water weight and natural fluctuations

It truly is about time scale

Rabbit, is that a grab from your MFP or another tracker?

    It's trendweight.com

My MFP stats are automatically updated on there via my Fitbit synch

If you don't have a Fitbit just open a free account on Fitbit.com, synch that to MFP then open a trendweight account ...I believe
