Well, it is a former athlete who now has a wife, a kid and about 110 extra pounds. Yup, I said it. Well, here's to new beginnings. I will keep this updated with what I am doing in the hope that someone finds it helpful.

What I hope is you join me and support, offer feedback, anything.

Right now, I am fat. Time to get fit.

What's your beginning?

I have lost 20 pounds without being athletic at all... I have about 10 more pounds to go if I factor in the muscle I need to build to burn the extra crap off. I just purchased a new package the program I do offers that has preworkout and stuff like that. I should get it tomorrow I'm excited. If you would like to add me we can encourage eachother. :)

I started with just weighing and logging everything for a week to see where I was starting from. Then, made one change, gave myself a week to get used to it, and changed something else. Big goals are made of smaller goals, and making smaller changes to build from worked well for me.

I started when my son was born. I realized that, if I wanted to be around to watch him grow up, something needed to change. I started at 300+ got down to 217 but got lazy... I'm at 248 now and need to get back down.

Thanks for the responses. Let me be frank. I really hate exercise videos. So, what did I just do? I just ordered Cize - exercise video. I will keep you posted. Right now, I am logging what I eat, gave up soda (so hard) and I walk once a week. I know there is so much more to do. This is just the beginning.

My music - old disco. What's your walk to/ jog to/ workout to music?

I didn't exercise. Exercise is NOT needed for weight loss, though it's good for other things. I'm a lazy person by nature, so giving up something I like doing to go do something that I hate is not easy for me. ^^; So the first two years was with little to no exercise. I have yet to find a form of exercise that I like and can do. I say can do because I love DDR, but my asthma is too bad for me to do very much without risking a serious asthma attack. I did add walking in last year with a walking class, and kept doing it until about August (I live in texas, screw that! XD ). The main reason was to try and get my asthma under control. It helped, and I'm getting started again. I use the Zombies Run app, which is actually better motivation than I thought it would be.

    .....and i'll stop babbling now.

    Welcome to MFP,

My story...the day before Thanksgiving 2015 @ 300 pounds, I got up from my desk and felt ill, fat, sick and dying. I knew it was time for a change. I bought a cheap recumbent bike from Wal-Mart (because my back hurt to walk 100 yards) put it in place of my recliner and started peddling. I made it 10-15 minutes on the lowest setting out of breath and legs, lungs, heart burning. I ate way below what a normal man should and the weight came off quick, 10 pounds first week, 5 pounds next week, 5 more the next. I then got on this app and logged everything! I keep peddling and upped it to 30 minutes a day (sometimes 2x a day). I bought a dog, and knew she needed walked so I walked her every day 2x. I then bought a used bow flex and started strength training. Then recently a used treadmill.

I am down 33 pounds in 63 days. If I can do it anyone can! I did 1 hour at 3.2 mph on the treadmill and 30 minutes on the bike this morning at 4:00am (And I am NOT a morning person) ANYONE can add me, I will promise to motivate, congratulate and lose weight with you.

Although I've had lots of beginnings, I'm hoping this one will be the one that takes! I have been logging for 45 days now, and am down 14 lbs. This is not a marathon, so I feel no need to run! I am walking, and using the elliptical. I've started a bit of weight training, just to start toning. Found a lot of beginner arm, leg and core exercises on Pinterest. I was never an athlete like you, so I imagine that in time, you will be back in the swing of things! You can do it.

Wow! Great stories from everyone on the starts of the journey!
Back in November, my doctor said, "Well, your cholesterol is a little high, and your blood pressure is a little high. You haven't gained any weight this year, so I guess that's something. We should probably see about starting you on cholesterol meds."

His words just rang in my ears all night and all the next day. "You haven't gained any weight, so I guess that's something.".. I was 180 pounds, heavier than I've ever been in my life. And my doctor was giving up on me. About a week later, my husband had his appointment and our doctor warned him that he was prediabetic and that if he didn't make changes, he was going to end up with diabetes. Suddenly, we were both on this journey together. Creating diets that were low carb, low sugar and low cholesterol, getting gym memberships, etc. I'm sad that we both let our health get to this point, but I'm glad that we're doing this together! We both want to be healthy and live long lives!

Here is my February update. First, thank you all. It is always great to hear from others. It takes continued support to overcome some challenges and your support helps me.

In 40 days, I have lost 20 pounds. I know that for some, this seems like a little but for ke, that is more weight than I have lost in 14 years of trying and stopping.

The bad news, today started really tough. I am a people leader and had to correct the behavior of a team member and I needed courage in the form of 1500 calorie breakfast from Bojangles.

I am not proud, but I am honest.

    Starting over again. . . . .

    Day 1

All of your stories are awesome! Congratulations to each of you. I am starting over, again. Every time just a few pounds heavier than the last time. Of course, I'm heavier than I've ever been. I just turned 60, and am wondering if this time will be any different than before - but I have got to do something! Fingers crossed!
