Spartan Race Burpee Mod

Hey all - I'm scheduled for a Spartan Race this Sunday, but I went down on my road bike last weekend and my wrist is in a lot of pain. It's getting better but I probably have another few weeks of recovery. I'm hoping I can do most obstacles, but anything that flexes the wrist like a push-up is completely out of the question right now.

For anyone who has done a Spartan with some kind of injury, how accommodating are the judges? We're talking non-elite here so I can't imagine they're that difficult...

My biggest question is does anyone have suggestions on burpee mods that might satisfy the judges on the day of the race?

Thanks in advance!

Hey @DrifterBear - in March Spartan is switching to an Elite - Competitve - Open wave model. SoCal (I assume that is what you are running this weekend) will still be Elite and Open. If you are in the Open heat you will not be judged by your burpees. There will be people that skip them all together. There may be some people on course who are jerks and yell at you....but don't listen to them. Do your best and have fun.

I did the NJ Beast last year with a week old fractured knuckle. I did body weight squats instead of burpees. I did A LOT of squats because I wasn't able to do quite a few obstacles. I couldn't use my left hand at all.

Also, you may want to brace it for the race. All the running and arm swinging may end up agitating it. And take some advil with you just in case you need it.

    Good luck!
