low energy

Hi Everyone!

I just started a new diet about 14 days ago, and I have already lost a pound (woo!) but I'm starting to have really low levels of energy starting at about 4pm. I sleep around 7-8 hours a night, and have been exercising 3-4 times a week. I work until 10pm most nights and getting sluggish at 4 is just not working for me. I am also reluctant to drink caffeine in the afternoon, because then I can't sleep at night. I also realize it could just be my body getting used to the new diet, but any suggestions on how to keep my energy level up into the afteroon and early evening while I adjust would be fabulous!

What are your stats and what is your calorie deficit? You may not be eating enough or may be depriving yourself nutritionally. Just guessing without more info.

Since you get sluggish at 4, what time was the meal previous, what was it, and how many calories did it contain?

I usually eat lunch around 1pm. Usually some kind of sandwich with fruit, or soup with bread and/or salad. I do eat a light snack between each meal as well. Usually my lunch ends up being around 400-500 calories

For me I get exhausted mentally and physically if I don't see the sun for multiple days in a row (e.g. Midwestern winters in a nutshell). I also take Vitamin D supplements because I've had blood tests and I'm deficient. If your sluggishness is impacting your ability to be a functioning human being, I'd get a blood test and talk to your doctor.

Is your new diet lower carb? If you are working out 3-4 times a week at high intensity going low carb can make you feel sluggish.
