Her team will be able to provide the areas of focus for her and can direct you to where you might find recipes, but they aren't too much help in the day to day planning of meals. My husband is Stage 5 and on Home Hemodialysis while we await transplant.
The Davita site has been great as there is an option to seperate out the recipes for CKD, dialysis and diabetes patients. I also have used the Kidney Kitchen Connection on The Kidney Foundation of Canada's website as well as a group of cookbooks done by my husband's dietician and a team here in Canada that you can find on the Spice It Up website.
I have found as I got used to the types of foods that he could have I am getting better with recipes out of our regular cookbooks and making the changes necessary for him to enjoy. I do all the cooking for him, most weekends are spent making food for the week as it can be a lot of work to deal with in the evening when I get home from work.
Feel free to add me if you want, always available for any questions.0 -

Thanks for the Spice It Up website. I am trying to keep my sodium at around 1200 so I am always looking for lower sodium recipes...great site!
For those that are interested here is the site...

EMCCLAIN951, I don't have any advice, but can let you know that you're not alone! My diabetic mother was told last week that she has renal manifestation, which is early stage kidney failure. I have struggled with helping her to understand how her lifestyle choices (ie diet and lack of exercise, as well as smoking) have poorly impacted her health and ability to get her diabetes under control. I am at the end of my rope with her, and her doctor sees it. He's given her a 6 month plan to get her diabetes under control or will be recommended she go into assisted living. Not knowing your mom's history or personal situation, I just want to let you know you have my support and best wishes that your plan to help your mom is received and implemented by her and with the guidance of her care team, I truly hope you make some positive changes and have a good impact. Best of luck and stay strong and focused!

you need to speak to a registered dietician.
I cared for my grandfather in S4 kidney disease until his passing. There are a lot of food restrictions.0 -
Look up the Gerson Therapy! It's highly successful in treating disease and repairing the body through nutrition and cleansing! Please, please look into it!0

Posting this 2 other times in the same thread isn't enough? I would suggest she follow what her doctor and RD say rather than random people on the internet0 -

Wow I don't see any negativity at all here. Only helpfulness.0 -
I would look at these Doctor's websites that have been curing people with serious illnesses through diet for many, many years. They unanimously recommend a whole food, plant based diet.

Here's a link to a video concerning Kidney function/disease on Dr. Greger's website: http://nutritionfacts.org/video/protein-source-an-acid-test-for-kidney-function/
I hope and pray your Mom gets the help she most needs & that you are able to help her in this journey with a helpful diet.

@PlantBasedKnight you are a walking hazard. My mother experienced kidney failure and eventually got a transplant. She was on dialysis for many years. You cannot reverse end stage kidney failure by diet alone. To suggest such a thing is irresponsible.
That being said, OP, you can prepare meals that are geared to your mother's specific needs. Good for you.0 -

Oh gosh no!!!! There is reason why they are not allowed to have Gerson therapy clinics in the US. Drs found promoting it for cancer treatment have also gotten in trouble for malpractice for suggesting it.0 -
@PlantBasedKnight it's irresponsible to suggest a diet change without consulting a doctor.0
-
And how does it makes you enlightened when I found false statements on the first disease I looked up.0

@PlantBasedKnight more like woo killer. False hopes and false cures kill more people, by delaying life-saving treatments. Like dialysis.0

Um omg there is no cure. I have IBD. I know there is no cure. You can go into remission but you can't be cured without surgery. If it completely goes away from not eating dairy it wasn't UC to begin with. Why don't you go to all the research scientists you have found genes associated with this disease and work their butts off trying to find a cureand tell them your breakthrough research. I'm sure they'd appreciate it.0

She never said what the Dr said she can eat so suggesting foods is premature.0

OP...I understand that your mother's diagnosis must be scary for you...I know you want to do all that you can to help her. I an glad that you have been able to see a dietitian and find the info that you need.
If you need low sodium recipes this is one site that I have found useful. She has one section for vegetarians if protein is a problem.
http://thedailydish.us/
I have tried a few of her recipes and have found them tasty considering that they are low sodium.
Hope this helps.0 -

She's scared...her mother is sick. She wants to help and do whatever she can.
When she started this thread she had just found out...her emotions were and probably still are running very high.
I think we can give her a break...0 -

I have see this first hand working in the field of cancer. If cinnamon could cure cancer a company would have found a way to make money off it but people wait to have real cancer treatment due to quack cures until it is too late. Sad really0 -

It is sad. Yet people keep spouting the "false hope". I will never understand why someone would come on the web and hand out info to people that are sick and need to follow their doctors instructions and not go off on some wild goose chase. I personally would not want that hanging over my head. I couldn't live with myself if I thought some "woo" that I spouted caused someone else's health to worsen.
It plsses me off to no end when I read such garbage.
Okay...my rant is over.0 -

You seem to have a suggestive eyes that read words into my words. I never said her mum should not go for a dialysis. I never suggested her mum should not seek professional medical intervention. I never suggested that she can take care of her mum on her own.
I suggest that @jgnatca must eat more carrot for Vitamin A, also she should check her eyes because something seems to be wrong there.
This is a mom who is trying to avoid dialysis with diet, hoping to put her kidney failure in to remission.0
