To crossfit or not?

So I was planning on starting crossfit to get stronger and fitter. What are peoples opinions of this? Im looking to drop inches and improve my core strength. Would crossfit be better than say lifting weights?

I started crossfit last week.
It really has been my saviour! It's like circuit training, to the pro intense. Youtube a WOD. It's a mixture of cardio, weight lifting (Olympic and power) and own bodyweight exercises like burpees, pull ups and press ups. I can't do pull ups or a full deep press up so they are scaled to your ability. Can't run? You can use a rowing machine. Can't do a pull up? Use a resistance band which will make it easier while you perfect your form.
I've also just found out that my squat form was seriously bad so now i'n my way to improving it.

I used to combine cross fit with circuit weights. I had the absolute best body ever. I really loved it. My husband loved and absolutely hated it. He turned into a jealous monster. He said it was the gym or our marriage. I made a mistake and picked him. I do it differently now as it didn't work out anyway. LOL0

I couldn't agree more! I found a great crossfit gym and I absolutely LOVE the coaches. I am the heaviest person there, but they all make me feel like that is completely unimportant. What is important is doing things correctly so I don't get injured, continue coming back, do my best when I'm there, etc.

I JUST finished the training classes I had to take in order to join. I don't know if this is what all "boxes" do, or what, but I was blown away! In a good way! I am excited for the first time in a long to to be on a new road to fitness. The trainers I've had have been awesome at scaling the stuff back so I can do it. Scaled back, the work outs are the best I've encountered. Good luck!0

I didn't even know what Crossfit was until I was looking into finding a personal trainer. I avoided joining just "any" gym because even if I was motivated enough to get there, I would take one step through the door and have no idea where to go from there. I needed guidance.
In 2015 I'll be taking a firefighter's agility test and I am so far from ready it's a joke. I think Crossfit will help. I start tomorrow0 -
I've also been considering signing up for CrossFit, but so scared that I'll get huge muscles! Has anyone had any success with weight loss while doing CrossFit?0

I started CrossFit in late January at 235 lb. I've lost 27# and 3 sizes. I've been absolutely delighted at the muscle definition I'm starting to see, but in no way, shape or form would I consider my newly discovered muscles "huge."0

my fiancé and I started CrossFit on Saturday. I love it! he's still undecided, he was doing insanity and saw crazy results, fantastic calorie burn, etc. I burn about the same amount of calories in CrossFit as I did in Insanity, I like the variety and "newness" of it. It is a mix of cardio and strength, its all about competition and encouragement. So far, 3 classes in, I can feel new muscles being sore that haven't been for a very long time. My core is really sore because you engage it during most exercises without realizing (until after).
My friend that encouraged us to try it is down 25lbs in about 5 months without changing his diet, he can do more pull ups than he could in high school, he's addicted.
Do you have a gym that offers a free WOD? if so, check that out! That is what we did, I signed us up immediately following.0 -

If you check out the women on the crossfit games (youtube) you can see they are not huge, some have very strong, defined muscle, but these are the most elite of crossfit athletes, I don't think the average person doing crossfit gets big, just stronger, more defined, toned, etc.0
