Typical gym workout?

Hi everyone :) I haven't been to a gym in.... maybe a year and a half? I'd like to start attending again, soon, but I don't know where to start once I get in there. What does a typical day at the gym look like for you? Do you do cardio first, then weights? Or the other way around? How long is your average cardio time? How much and how often do you lift? For what muscle groups?

TL;DR What does a typical day at the gym look like for you?

I do a 4 day, upper/lower lifting split centered around compound lifts (bench press, OHP, squat, and deadlift). I don't do cardio on days I lift. I run once a week outside, usually on Saturdays for however long it takes me to do a 5k (about 35 min). Typical lifting time is about an hour.

I do a body part split. I'll typically lift for an hour or so and then do cardio, which could be HIIT, running, boot camp, spin or kickbox. At least one day a week I'll and not do cardio and one day I'll do just cardio and not lift.

Our goals & abilities might be different than yours, so asking for our workout might lead you down the wrong path. Newbies generally can't go wrong doing a full-body strength workout every 2-3 days - preferably one designed by a pro (NROL, Stronglifts, a personal trainer's plan, etc). You can do cardio on your non-lifting days, or short cardio after lifting.
Whatever you do, don't do too much too soon.

If you need more help, state your goal. :+1:

I have set days where I do certain body parts such as my "Pull" day being biceps/back and my "Push" day being chest/shoulders. I find this kind of routine works best for me and it's rather simple to understand. Of course, I also have the dreaded leg day. I do mix some cardio in before/after my workouts

For the most part I only use the gym for weights...I only do cardio in the gym when the weather is really *kitten*.

My trainer programs my lifting routine.
