Cortisone Injection

I'm scheduled to get an injection of cortisone in my knee on Monday. I'll be asking the doc these questions, but in the meantime, I was hoping to get some input from those who have done it.
Will I be able to work out 6 hours after it's done? If yes, normal routine or just slow, easy walk?
About how long after should it start helping for the pain during certain activities? A day? A week?
About how long does the relief last? Am I looking at several shots a year, or just one every once in awhile?
Thanks!

Most probably you will be told to take it very easy for the next couple of days and should also expect pain for the next few days.
I think the usual schedule is every few months, but you should discuss this with your dr.0 -
I've had cortisone shots in different parts of my body. Sometimes the shots worked right away and sometimes it took a week. Sometimes the shots lasted months and sometimes only a short period of time.0

took about a week to start working for me...the cortisone wasn't nearly as painful in the day or two after as the synvisc shots were...the cortisone did work wonders for my knee though - went from being unable to bend my leg for MONTHS to relatively normal movement a week or so after the shot...I think most doctors will only give you up to 3 per year as more than that can be bad..0

I had it in my hip, as well as an arthogram, and both times, they advised me to have it done on a Friday so I could recover over the weekend. I did need the whole weekend. It may be different for you, but I'd plan at least a day of lying around.
As far as relief: I needed surgery, so, does not apply.0 -
Listen to your doctor, too much too soon is bad. My shoulder is milquetoast!0

I've had them for my knee (which now requires surgery - but not because of the cortisone!), and for plantar fasciitis (injected in the heel of my foot), as well as the synvisc shots. All provided temporary relief, up to about 3 months for the knee with the synvisc. I think there is a medically recommended limit on how many times you can get cortisone - if it doesnt provide relief, there is no point in continuing that therapy, you need something more effective.
I seem to recall that after all the shots, I was told to stay off my feet for a certain amount of time, less than 24 hours but longer than 6 hrs - but remember, YMMV!! Good luck!!0 -
Had it in my foot (plantar fasciitis) be careful the stuff is amazing but can mask some pain....0

Will definitely be doing what the doc says. Thanks for the personal experiences.0
