Kind of excited but may just be false hope

I made a thread this week about gaining weight as my scale continually showed 138.2, 138.4 everyday. I didn't weigh in yesterday bc my cycle is about to start on Tuesday so I figured I'd wait. I was curious this morning and the scale said 135.8!? I know it's prob just daily fluctuations but I'm hoping I lost at least a lb? I'm going to weigh again tomorrow and see but either way it made me happy!

Sounds like some of the water retention from your period is starting to go away. It often masks weight loss.

I remained steady or a higher for a solid week. Yesterday, I finally returned to the weight I was a week ago. Today,I went down 0.6lbs. Trying very very hard to listen to trendweight.com - which shows a steady, daily 0.2lb a day loss for the past week.

Your body will still go through hormonal changes even though you have not started cycling yet

So you think I'm still at 138? Or my body was retaining water so I may be less

Ok, so here's the thing. When you're eating at a calorie defect and losing fat you could also be gaining water weight at the same time for various reasons (especially women, who retain water at certain times of their cycle). Eventually, water weight does come off and then it 'reveals' the fat loss that you've previously achieved. So while the three pounds that you lost overnight are almost certainly water, it mean that for the previous week, when you thought you were maintaining (or even seeing small gains) you were actually still losing fat and that fat added up to the three pounds that you're now seeing on the scale.

So, yes it's probably water. But I don't think that's any reason to be discouraged. Fat loss is happening.

That makes sense, so I've probably been at about 135-136 but it was water retention probably when I was 138? Sorry just trying to make sure I'm understanding correctly.

This is likely the case, yes. I recommend starting to track your weight on a graph that shows the overall trend of weight loss/gain and helps to smooth out the ups and downs due to water retention. I use weightgrapher but there are others out there too.

Also do you guys think I should weigh on the days when I'm on my period or just skip that week? I'm just curious to see how much of a change it may have on my body..

If it won't be upsetting if you see gains, then sure, go for it.

Your body is going to fluctuate every day, whether you see it on the scale or not. Depending on how you react to those fluctuations, you can either weigh once per week, on the same day and under the same circumstances (in which case you won't "see" the fluctuations), or every day (in which case you will see the fluctuations). Your weight is going to bounce around, for the rest of your life, so it's the general downward trend that matters and not each individual data point. Also, FWIW, I always lose right before TOM. It's just part of my normal weight pattern.

I weigh every day just so I get used to seeing the fluctuations and yeah, your weight is going to go up and down no matter what you do - welcome to being a woman. :) Seriously though, I never took my weight too seriously around TOM because I always retained about 3 pounds of water that didn't come off until I was done. So weights up around that time - eh - that's normal. Just keep doing what you're doing, it will even itself out eventually.

All kinds of things cause weight fluctuation. About a week ago my weight literally jumped 10 lb overnight and within 4 days was back down 9. That was extreme but it's normal for my weight to range between 5 lbs. There is no single weight for you, only a range that you typically fluctuate within. You'll have different weights throughout the day and day-to-day can be very different. Focus on your diet, use a food scale and track everything accurately. If you're trying to lose, you have to focus on the long term. Weekly and monthly changes are real, daily is not.
