I've been a vegetarian for 5 years now and I've got comfortable eating the wrong things such as starches!!! I started to feel like a fake vegetarian at times lol.. I chose more starch type foods over veggies :(
I also didn't realize how much cheese & yogurt I was eating... Now I'm really trying to stick to veggies, veggies, and more veggies.. I haven't cut out cheese or yogurt which are the only real dairy items I eat.. But REALLY CHEESE is Evil!!! At least for me lol.. I've already cut back on cheese before and bought healthier lower fat/cal cheese but I end up eating 2x as much because I tell myself it's healthier lol.. What a battle lol... I think I'm going to just cut it out if my diet. It's time for me to be a proud vegetarian and start eating my veggies! Does anyone else feel like a fake vegetarian sometimes?

There's nothing inherently wrong with starches...I eat plenty of them...I love potatoes and other root vegetables, I also eat a lot of whole grains, legumes, lentils, etc...and plenty of veg and fruit.

There's more to proper nutrition than just veggies, veggies, veggies...way more. Dietary fat is highly essential and so is protein.

Note that I'm not a vegetarian...my diet includes a lot of plant based foods, but I also eat a lot of fish and chicken and occasionally beef and pork.

I get told I'm a fake Vegan all the time because 1) I eat a high protein diet and bodybuild and 2) I don't believe everyone needs to eat in any one particular way.

    Does that count?

Pretty much this. I'm not a vegetarian either, but I eat tons of plant based foods, especially rice, potatoes, beans root vegetables, fruits etc. I would not sweat that you aren't consuming nothing but vegetables. It's never going to hurt to add some more leafy greens, and as far as cheese and yogurt, eat the good stuff and enjoy. Fat doesn't make you fat.

True... That's funny how we might sometimes think that "Fat makes you Fat"lol ... I guess It's all about consuming the good Starches, the good Fats, the good Carbs etc.. Also.. I think of lentils as my protein it's ..one of my most favorite things to eat BTW *pic is of lentils w/garlic & onion, quinoa, avocado, apples, and celery

We joke that my wife is a carbatarian...she is technically pescatarian....but does not particularly like veggies and fruit. That's where i come in and add all the veggies!

There's nothing inherently wrong with starches. My dinner tonight was a baked sweet potato, baked carrots, a Nature's Path Blueberry Flax oatmeal packet, and a chocolate peppermint green drink. It fit in my calorie allotment, and I feel full and satiated.

Starches only become a problem if you're a diabetic, they're causing you to go over your calorie goal, or if they don't satiate your hunger until it's meal time again.
