Eating candy every night

I've been having a nightly Snickers bar (yep, a regular sized 250 calorie bar), and it's been doing wonders for my motivation!

It all started when I hopped back on the weight loss wagon after some time away, and had been being very strict all day. Had not had anything that could be deemed a treat. Cue it being 8:30, already ate my 1200 calories for the day, and I'm craving chocolate. Like, it's all I can think about and I'm literally salivating. I held out for a while but ultimately I caved, grabbed some change and went to the vending machine in the lobby of my apartment complex for a snickers. When I opened this bar, I actually smelled it. I literally wafted the chocolate aroma towards my nose like it was some kind of delicacy. I think I looked deranged. And I enjoyed that candy bar more than any other I'd ever had. Savored the crap out of it.

Anyway, it made me think, why shouldn't I have a treat like this every night if it makes me so happy? So I worked a full size snickers bar or equivalent treat into my calories every day this week and I've been a happy camper. Makes it so much easier to eat healthy during the day (when I have willpower), knowing that I get my treat after dinner (when the cravings always seem to set in). And it's a real treat too! None of this one square of dark chocolate nonsense that never satisfies me.

Plus, since I get it from the vending machine every night, there are no snacks in my apartment that I can binge on! I think that's my favorite part. I buy one treat, eat it, and I'm done. No other convenient snacks lying around tempting me.

tl;dr- Treat yo'self!

I always make sure I have 200-400 calories left over for a nighttime yogurt or oatmeal or chips or crackers or popcorn or some other unhealthy snack.

Haha yogurt or oatmeal sounds healthier than my candy bar. But yes, I've found that having no calories left after dinner for a snack just intensifies cravings because I know I'm not allowed to have anything.

I eat some sort of sweet or dessert everyday. Tonight it's Reese's oreo cookies and ice cream and homemade cookies and Lindor chocolate. Of course today I went over my calories, but I planned it that way, I go under my goal for a few days so I can go over some other day(s). I also use cardio to increase the amount of calories I can eat too...so that helps.

IFF it works for you and with you and you feel like it works with your LONG TERM goals. AWESOME. For me a couple of squares of dark chocolate and a bit of wine does the trick. I know it works for me, because it's worked for years. We ALL have to figure out what works for us. CHEERS

When I was in college I was seeing a great counselor and one of the things we talked about was food and she said whatever you do don't deny yourself because it will never work and she was right! And we need to be careful because when we develop feelings of guilt about food that can be very discouraging food is great it is something to enjoy!

I have some kind of candy or dessert every night. Usually one or two fun sized chocolates or a low(ish) calorie ice cream... Keeps me from going insane and eating everything in the house!

I plan on a sweet snack most evenings. Usually chocolate in some form. 100-150 calories.

I do the same thing! I save most of my calories for dinner and an after dinner snack or two!

That's a neat idea. I do something similar, but not exactly candy. I always have a extra calories for enjoyment snacks. I don't always feel like having candy or chocolate, but those calories go towards whatever I feel like enjoying at the time. My fun foods range from plain lettuce to extra rich chocolate mousse cake.
