Daniel fast?

Our pastor is encouraging us to do a 21 day Daniel fast, starting tomorrow. I've never done one and I think I will try. Any advice from someone who has done it? I also have picky kids to feed.

you'll be avoiding meat and dairy, so i'd make sure to get plenty of protein from other sources if i were you.

I've never heard of this before. So...for what religious holiday or occasion do you do a Daniel fast for?

I've done a Daniels Fast and it is marvelous. I practically eat that way now. We are in the midst of a "Habit Breaking" Fast at my church. We can have chicken, fish, plain rice, and all fresh fruits and vegetables. I love them because they work physically, mentally, and spiritually!

It's just as a way of showing God how serious you are....and that you are seeking His face...and needing Him, etc.

...that was in response to the lady who was asking "why"? I don't know how to comment under someone's question.

interesting. i would think that things like tithing, being charitable, accepting and forgiving others, and prayer would be higher on the list.

but i guess in this modern age, the big guy wants you to cut out processed flour as well.

I have a coworker that says they're fantastic, and also does them for religious reasons. I have not done one, nor do I forsee myself trying it.

I am curious to see how this thread turns out.

I personally have never done the fast, i know someone who has, and she did excellent, both physically and spiritually, it helped her to cleanse her life, literally. It is a very simple fast and user friendly.

I did this last fall. If you google "Daniel fast recipes" you can find a lot of good ideas. There are several variations, some allowing things like vinegar and coffee, some not. You will have to decide which one is right for you. There are some soups and frozen dishes made by Amy's that are fast-friendly if you are in a hurry, but make sure you read the labels.

Thanks! I noticed our local Braum's store has started carrying the Amy's brand. I will have to check that out!

I've read Daniel, and I don't recall leavened foods, sugars, or fats being left off his menu. Meats, maybe, if they weren't prepared the right way or sacrificed to idols.

Is this a congregation-wide fast? If so, will allowances be made for those on special diets?

Other than the no meat thing it sounds like a good way to eat in general?

Our church first did this about a year and a half ago. I didn't even try because it was SO foreign from the way I ate. (which was junk). I'm super excited that I actually LIKE enough healthy stuff now to give it a try!
