Bcaa is good if you want fast muscle recovery. When taking essential amino acids they are bound together and have to be broken down in order to be utilized. So... 20 minutes to an hour vs within minutes? Depends on who you ask or if you have muscle soreness

The answer to "Do they work?" depends on what you're wanting them to work for.

Myself, I do find them effective for preventing workout fatigue during weight lifting sessions and possibly some benefit for workout recovery (I take some pre and intra-workout).

Will they cause increased weight loss? No.

Yes they work. You get all you need from the food you eat. Provided you are getting adequate protein. No need to spend extra money on something you are already getting enough of...

Let's just say this....they won't impact you in a negative way....but they're also not necessary

I have some around the house for heavy workouts (be it lifting or running) that would take an extra toll on my body. I just take a dose before and go, I can tell the difference in muscle fatigue levels for sure but it isn't something that I would take as an everyday thing.

Is eating enough essential amino acids better for you than not eating enough? - yes.
Is buying any $40 powder going to give you noticeable gains in the gym? - no.

BCAA's (as a supplement) are a scam invented by nutrition companies to make money. If such products had any noticeable effect, the would be behind the pharmacy counter and you would need a prescription.

Isoleucine, leucine, and valine are essential amino acids. If you are worried about it, eat more meat, but you probably get enough.

Just like everything in life everyone has their own opinions, I drink a gallon of water a day mixed with bcaas and I've stopped for weeks at a time and just drank the water and I notice in general I am noticeably more sore. Also I sometimes take xtend go which has caffeine so drinking that thruought the day is like taking a small preworkout all day long.

Do they work for what? I assume you mean as a supplement?

I agree with ping. They certainly won't hurt you, but how much they help is debatable, and probably somewhere between zero and only a little.

Aminos are the simple forms of protein. Taking BCAA's or Aminos in pill form isn't going to increase recovery faster nor reduce muscle soreness faster. Muscle takes more than a few minutes to fully recover after an intense training session. That's why DOMS sets in the next day.

There's anecdotes and then there's science. Truth in science happens whether you want to believe it or not.
