Natural Hair Color Anyone?

I let my natural hair color grow out, which is salt and pepper. I'm 48 years old and most people think I should color it to look younger. I'm all about embracing natural beauty. Anybody else out there feel like I do?

I think that is a decision that only you can make! It all depends how you feel about yourself and what makes you comfortable! Some People are absolutely Beautiful with their salt and pepper or pure white hair and I sure hope that I will be one of those that can pull it off without coloring my hair! At 51 I've been blessed with a delay in getting the grey but have one pure white hair on my whole head. I honestly don't know how I'll feel when it starts happening! I don't think my Mama got the grey until her mid 60s so hopefully I'll luck out with those genes for a bit longer! :) All of my children inherited the premature grey from their Dad's side of the family and all of them had a few greys even in their teens. I have a 34 year old daughter with tons of grey and she does color her hair.

Don't let anyone tell you what you should do with you! Be yourself and go with what makes you feel good! Remember...You are Beautiful no matter what you decide! :)<3

If you like it leave it, you're the one who has to live with it. :) I can't remember the last time I dyed my hair

I've been totally grey since 30. I also work for a company where the average age is around 28...I feel better if I keep my grey hidden. I think occasionally about going grey but am just not ready. You need to do what is right for you! Staying brunette is the right thing for me still at 51! But coloring every few weeks is a pain in the tush!

Been shaving my head for 3 decades. Don't even know what color it is. Used to be red, but judging by my beard, it ain't red anymore.

Mines very jet black; I did dye it different colors back than but decided it was too much a hassle. So black forever and always. >:)

I think it all depends on how the grey is coming in. You can visit a stylist for a color consult about how to let your salt & pepper come through without making it look like you've 'let yourself go'.

I am 31 years old and my hair is severely gray under the dye job. I have no problem aging. I have no problem aging gracefully. However, at 31 years old, I am just not ready to be gray yet. I dye my hair and will probably do it for a long time. I want to be happy in life and having a couple purple streaks in my hair makes me happy, then I'm going to do it.

I'm actually a ginger. Bodypaint and some hair dye work wonders.

Personally I think going natural ultimately looks the best because, well, it looks natural! But that's why it's about what makes you happy.
Hair color has to be maintained; it changes over time. And the roots. And the expense.
If you allow the natural color, you will be able to find clothing with color pallette that truly matches you.
If you color, you'll have to adjust your wardrobe....a lot.....colors you naturally usually LOVE may not look the same on you.

I've had cool silver streaks since my early 20's and I've always rocked them proudly. They're actually kind of pretty and they grow strategically, like racing stripes, out from my temples. I love my natural hair. If anybody else doesn't like it, they can avert their eyes. My sister has the silver streaks, too, but they are throughout her hair. People are always complimenting her and asking her where she gets her hair done and if it's a special coloring technique they can ask for.

I think a quality dye job looks great, too, but unless you do the maintenance, colored hair can look really bad. Healthy, natural hair (of any shade) is prettier to me than a dull, washed out color job with a crown of roots showing. I don't need to look young for my age. I just want to look GOOD for my age. You can look good with or without coloring your hair. It's a preference I guess.

Try going natural and see if you like it. If not, you can always go back to coloring it.

My hair has this kind of effect, but it's not as dark as hers, and my stripes are at both of my temples:

That's an idea. If I get bored, I can die my silver streaks purple. Or maybe die my hair purple and leave the silver streaks. Even cooler.

I've always said that if I went grey (that is, hair growing in fully grey from the roots, not random strands of hair turning grey) that I would shave off all my hair off then grow in the lovely silvery hair and just keep it like that.
It would only take a few months to get a decent amount of hair to style with.. Or you could let the roots grow in then get it cut up to the roots if you didn't want to be bald for a few months.
I couldn't be bothered with dying my hair all the time.
