Swimming conundrum

I love swimming and since we moved into our new house, we have a pool, so it assists with my wants, and also my needs by giving me another outlet for my workout...
So, my problem is how many calories am i really burning in the pool...I usually put on my MFP diary how much time I spend in the pool minus10 or 15 minutes. I do this because I know the entire I'm in the pool, i am not swimming non stop. I label it swimming (leisure, general), but my question, is how much of my pool activity is burning the calories? I just dont know....
I think i may stop putting my pool time on MFP at all and just allow whatever calories may burn surprise me...
Any suggestions?

Best thing would be to invest in a HRM that you can use in the pool; it will tell you exactly how many calories you're burning.0

Look at the Polar HRM's. I use a FT60 in the pool and it works great.
MFP was over-estimating my calorie expenditures for swimming.0 -

All depends what you do in the pool but hope this is useful for you - all are for one hour swimming:
Swimming freestyle vigourously - 863 calories
Swimming freestyle moderate - 690
Swimming backstroke general - 690
Swimming breastroke general - 863
Swimming butterfly general - 949
Swimming leisurely general - 518
Treading water vigourously - 863
Treading water moderately - 345
Not sure how much you weigh, but these are based on people who weigh around the 190lb mark0 -
I would love to get into one of those, but that is where money comes into play...LOL...For now, I think i will just stick with my plan of not putting the swimming on here, and letting it sneak up on me....I like surprises...0
