Turned Off By Indianmeal Moths?

Just wondering if anyone else has had trouble with these things since incorporating grains, flax seeds, etc into their diet(s) as a result of 'healthier' eating? I've read the larvae can be in the foods upon harvesting so even if you stored the goods in glass containers (because these pests can chew threw plastic bags) you may still have the potential to have them end up in your food.
Huge turn off right now.

Any experiences? I'd guess not buying in bulk but if it's at harvesting, then it wouldn't really matter.......

Unfortunately. They are still pests to have in the kitchen even if you've thrown out what they've populated.

My father had a very bad problem with those things for a while until I went through his entire kitchen and threw things out, vacuumed every inch of the house (walls, baseboards, curtains, etc) including in the food pantry and cupboards. It took me 3 days to do, but he hasn't had a problem with them since. I would suggest storing things they might be in in the freezer as soon as it comes home from the store (flour, oatmeal, flax, etc) and buying airtight containers or using ziplock freezer bags because the plastic is thicker. It won't stop them from being in the food if they happen to be there, but it will stop them from being in all of your food.

Had a bunch of stuff but yeah, freezing is where some of it went. Vacuum packing-good idea. Thanks!

Yeah, they got through the Ziplock Freezer Bags. Seems either glass or ceramic, maybe hard plastic, may be the way to go. Thank you for your feedback. :)

Eww... I put all of my spices, grains etc in glass containers as soon as I get it home for organizational purposes, glad it has another benefit..

Ikea sells great sealable containers for a dollar or two a piece.
