DietBet... For People in Desperate Need of Motivation

Hello,

I just thought I would share my experience with DietBet, for those who are interested in trying it out but are looking for feedback before they sign up.

Firstly I have tried losing weight countless times before, by tracking calories and working out. All attempts resulted in the same outcome: I would do great for 1 month, then over do the exercise portion leaving me exhausted and give up in despair.
I found DietBet on youtube from a fitness guru I actively watch. She had set up a challenge for one month and I decided that 25$ was worth a shot to end up losing weight, getting my money back and even making a profit off of it.
DietBet is a weight loss game where users bet on themselves to lose weight and even make money by losing weight. They have 2 games, the transformer; a six month challenge where users bet that they will lose 10% of their initial body weight within that six month period, or the kickstarter; a four week challenge where users bet they will lose 4% of their initial body weight within that four month period. All players' bets are added up into a pot, which is split equally amongst all players. The best part is, if every player wins, DietBet will forfeit their share of the pot in order to ensure winning players never lose money.

So far, I have played three games and have made a profit of 60$. It's not alot so far but I am extremely happy to know that this app gives me the motivation I need to FINALLY lose the weight. Plus a little extra cash never hurts.

I would be happy to provide further details to those interested.

I found what works for me and I would really like to provide that help to someone else.

Good luck to all of you on this incredible weight loss journey! XX

As far as commitment devices go, dietbet is good. It focuses only on the scale though. The Pact application is another commitment device, but it focuses on healthy activities. You commit to n verifiable exercise activities (steps, motion, distance traveled), n food logging activities through MFP, or n servings of vegetables that are verified by community voting.

If you don't make your weeks numbers, you pay for each missed item. If you do complete a weeks activities, you get a share of the money paid by people who had to pay.

Basically, it's a more responsible commitment device, as you're not going to Starve yourself at the last minute to make your goal.
