Worried about what to take (foodwise) camping?

HI,

My husband and I are going camping this weekend, and I was wondering what I should pack (food) to help me keep with my calorie goals.
It is so easy to eat junk when vacationing, and I am sure that I will succumb to temptation, but want to try to stick with the plan as much as I can. Thanks in advance for your answers.

I measured out the meat, like hamburger and hot dogs and steak and chicken, and put them in Foodsaver-type bags, one for each meal - they pack well in the cooler and water doesn't soak into the bags. Eggs can go into a plastic egg carrier. We took 2 coolers - one for meat, eggs, butter, milk, juice, and one for veggies, fruit, bread, chips. Things like olive oil and spices went into a Rubbermaid-type container. We used to tent camp at Assateague Island, on the beach, for 2 weeks every summer, until the kids missed electricity too much :) Have fun!
  • You can make Campfire Bean and Rice Burritos ahead of time and wrap in foil. Later, just throw them on the grill or onto the edges of your campfire.

Wraps, nuts, sandwiches, cold pasta salads, fruit with a protective layer (apples, oranges, grapes, etc.), granola bars, and smore fixings. In my opinion, camping just isn't worth it without smores. And this is immediately what comes to mind when I think of camping. Might make you laugh!

Last time we went camping, I did a lot of prep work ahead of time to make sure we were eating better. Lots of fruits and veggies to snack on. I prepared taco meat (ground Turkey) that just needed reheating. Tacos with refried black beans went over really well. We made crystal light instead of taking sodas. Chicken and vegetable kabobs are awesome, so are the tomato, cucumber, onion & vinegar snacks.
