Rest Day

Currently I hit the gym 7 days/week. 3-4 days lifting + 7 days cardio. I'm seeing results. Almost eveyone I talk to thinks I'm crazy, say mt body needs rest, I might get injured, etc. Is there any truth to this? I'm in a really good groove and dont want a rest day. Appreciate any advice, thanks.

Rest days are good but they don't have to be sedentary days. Many people takes rest days from lifting and intense cardio and spend them doing yard work, playing sports, taking hikes with the kids, etc. IMO you shouldn't train intensely every day but an easier cardio day is fine.

Rest is when the body recovers and you make fitness gains...and yes, you decrease your risk of injury. Note that a rest day doesn't mean you have to sit around doing nothing...on rest days I do yoga...I walk the dog...I take the kids out for a recreational bike ride or a hike...I'm still generally active, I just rest from more vigorous training activities.

For me, programmed recovery/rest days are simply another element of my overall training plan and they are just as important as the work I'm putting in...because recovery is where the magic happens from an overall fitness standpoint.

I have one rest day a week. I still get in lots of walking. Yesterday was my rest day and I took my toddlers to a play centre and spent the morning running around after them, jumping on jumping castles, climbing up structures, and kicking balls.

Like everyone said, a rest day is important. I am similar, in that I'm stubborn and don't want to break a good streak. Although I pushed too many days in my running training last summer and then was out 3 months with an ankle injury. Better to take a day than a month :-)

Ughhh I don't like it but I'll take a rest day haha. I'll skip one of the cardio days and plan on doing some activity that is low intensity, but gets me moving and I can still burn the same calories I would've at the gym. Thanks for the tips
