It's a food just like any other food.

Calories contribute toward your overall daily goal. There's nothing magical about it.

I have had success with adding this to my diet. It makes my food taste good. That is successful to me.

Weight loss? Is there some silly new pill or cleanse someone is hawking? Because it's never caused weight loss for me. Just given me yummy food.

I'm sure they have, but neither of those things will lead to weight loss. A sustained calorie deficit is the only way to lose weight. If you can sub out high-calorie drinks for green tea and make sure to account for the calories from coconut oil in your deficit, you will lose weight. Good luck!

I have never taken coconut oil with green tea to help with weight loss. I have lost a lot of weight. I don't believe everything I read on the internet. I look for peer-reviewed published double-blind scientific studies.

There's a lot of bs on the internet, including the coconut oil/green tea combo. It sounds gross too.

    I know, right? *shudders*

Op, if any of the quick fixes/hacks/boosts/tricks/etc worked, we'd be on it and drop this cico malarkey right now. There's a reason these things get touted: weight loss is hard, and slow. While 'get rich quick' may be everyone's dream, it sure ain't reality

Losing weight has nothing to do with what food you eat - that's more on the health and/or preference side of things.

Losing weight is all about eating less CALORIES than what your body uses or expends. Say you need to eat within 1500 calories per day. You can have a double quarter pounder with cheese, fries, and a soda and that'll be your meal for the day, or you can eat broccoli, spinach, and celery all day. You'll lose weight either way as long as you're under that 1500 calories. Simple enough?

Keep in mind that coconut oil is SATURATED FAT (the bad kind) and not UNSATURATED FAT (the good kind). Coconut oil may be a "healthier" alternative in some cases, but it is still a "bad fat" and should be used sparingly.

To lose weight you need to eat less calories than you burn.
For optimal health while doing so you should pay attention to your nutrition, like getting enough fat and protein and vitamins and other micronutrients.

I tried to make a list of all the foods you can eat while dieting. It didn't go well: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10190957/help-what-can-i-eat#latest

Long story short: calories are what matter for weight loss. All that other stuff can help with your health and general well being, but it's all just basic guidelines based on averages. Get your calories in check first. Make small changes as you go to work on the rest. No one needs the perfect diet for weight loss. Just do the best you can to start out.

Just one tablespoon of coconut oil is 120kcal. You're better off using those calories for a small snack instead.

Like a cookie. Or even better a GRANOLA cookie. Or a GRANOLA HEMP CHIA cookie with cacao nibs. With raisins and almonds.

    Conclusion
Coconut oil is probably not as bad as once thought, but it’s no “miracle” food either. It is probably safe to use it in reasonable amounts to replace other oils in the diet, and doing so may have a favorable effect on lipid profiles; but it’s not clear whether that will actually reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. There is no justification for adding it to the diet on top of the usual consumption of other fats. There is no credible evidence to support any of the many health benefits claimed for using it as a supplement.
