Home brewed tea

This is probably a silly question but I'm just trying to figure out if there's a max to how much iced tea I can drink a day. As an alternative to soda I usually have a glass of home brewed iced tea with Splenda as my "sweet drink" so I don't miss the sugar in sodas. Is this still a smart alternative or should I stick with water only?

That's perfectly fine. I drink a heck of a lot of tea throughout the day, it does just as good a job at hydrating.

Tea is excellent. If all day, make sure you consume at least some calcium foods. Dietary caffeine acutely increases urinary calcium loss. That's about the only possible downside I could find.

Water is really a great drink. Can you drink your tea unsweetened? How about a fruit infusion?

When I work from home I can drink the entire pitcher of ice tea in a day. Yum yum!

I can drink 1/2 gallon of (unsweetened) iced tea on my days off. I use 1 family size bag of black (or family sized green) tea and 2 individual fruity tea bags....makes 1/2 gallon. The flavored tea really mellows out the flavor.

You might be able to forgo the sweetener altogether (eventually). Teas I like: Lipton Pyramid Berry or Twinings Mixed Berry (black tea) Lipton Superfruit Raspberry (green tea). If you choose green tea make sure the water isn't boiling. Too hot water makes green tea bitter.

I do drink 1 or 2 diet sodas everyday also. Fake sugar & tea, fake sugar and soda....not a huge difference to me.

Tea has antioxidants and is a healthy drink. Too much tea can cause bone or kidney problems. But that's generally associated with drinking abnormally high quantities. Like crazy amounts.

I drink hot tea quite often. I flavor mine with honey for those health benefits.

Not a fan of artificial sweeteners since they're unhealthy and can make you crave sweets.

I just add stevia from the garden...since tea is already hitter the inherent bitterness of stevia is masked

Unless you're drinking massive quantities, the tea shouldn't have any negative health effects. However, you might want to reconsider the artificial sweetener. Stevia or honey might be a healthier alternative if you don't like it plain.
Splenda (sucralose) was downgraded from "safe" to "caution" in 2013 after an Italian animal study linked sucralose to a higher risk of developing leukemia.

Here's the link to the full article on Splenda safety from Medical News Today:

We are going to consume chemicals, no matter how clean we eat. I prefer not to purposely add more. I drink my tea and coffee plain and avoid added sweeteners as much as possible.

So if I go with honey instead, probably just a tsp or so, that would sort of give me a healthy all clear?

I drink my iced tea unsweetened, but my hot tea with Splenda. In the winter, I usually drink 4-6 mugs of hot tea each day. It actually helps me control my urge to eat sweets. The use of artificial sweeteners is highly debated, but ultimately a personal decision. Do what tastes good and works for you.

Thank you all so much for your feedback!! I've kept myself soda free for three weeks now so I love having this option for myself
