TDEE V's Fitness Pal recomendations?

Hi folks...so I'm looking to lose 1.5-2lbs a week over the next 10 weeks. When I log my details with FP they recommend a 1200 calories daily limit. However when I do it with TDEE its saying approx. 1600 calories? Which should I go with - With TDEE, there is no request for what weight I'm trying to lose...very confusing! Thanks

TDEE stands for total daily energy expenditure. That's your base metabolic rate, the amount of energy your body needs if you were in a coma and the energy you need for working, eating, walking around, commuting and all the other things on top of the coma. Generally, if you eat at your TDEE you neither gain nor lose weight.

1200kcal is the minimum you should be eating, thus this would give you a calorie deficit of 400kcal per day if 1600 is your TDEE. Having said that, losing 2 pounds per week is unrealistic for you. You don't seem to be too heavy anyway, thus the weight will not come off as fast as you hope for. Keep it slow, and learn how to eat properly.

is that the total amount you need to maintain? or is that the fat loss amount? as generally they do it per 1lb a week loss. so that would make sense.. do you exercise?

    It works out the same

a cut on TDEE = MFP plus exercise calories

MFP allowance excludes purposeful exercise, it's confusing when you set it up because you enter your goal for exercise, but that's separate in the calculations

best advice is to eat back 50-75% of purposeful exercise calories on top of the MFP allowance - if you don't want to follow cut from TDEE

also weight loss at 1% bodyweight per week is a good guideline

Ok thanks for feedback...I exercise twice a week, Pilates and Strength class, then try to walk most days when I can. Definitely harder to lose the weight the closer to your goal. Not being funny, but I think that's half the battle - not knowing how to eat properly, especially if you want it to be sustainable. We were raised on meat, veg and spuds....now with the variety of foods its a minefield! Drives me nuts especially when "salads" are covered in sauces! Perhaps the key is to bring lunch to work, make everything at home & avoid eating out (only on occasion). I'll change my goal to 1lb and see how t goes...thanks again for your replies:)

yes to taking your own food to work

    batch cook at weekends

I have free catering at work - I still bring my own lunch and snacks
