How overweight? You probably want to work on your mobility as well as start getting use to free weights. I would pick a structured beginner program to start out with.0

Do you attend a gym? I would suggest meeting with a trainer and they will direct you what to do. If not start with low weights, very important to increase slowly. Make sure that you get your form right otherwise you'll just hurt yourself. Go to popsugar fitness on the web and you can tell them what kind of workout you are after. They have awesome workouts in there for all types of people!!! Good luck my friend and have fun while doing it!!!!0

Bodybuilder.com has free programs you can use. I tried a few and learned all the different exercise with Dumbells.
Now I workout in the "big boy" section and I am always amazed how far I have some in a year.0 -
Dumbbells and machines. Use low weight. You want to work on form first. Form is what is going to get you the best results and you wont injure yourself. Also, believe it or not, people at the gym are very friendly and will help. I know it can be intimidating, but they are there for the same reason you are and everyone had to start somewhere. Also, I can give you more weight lifting advise if need be.0

Warm up your muscles for about twenty minutes on the treadmill before you do any exercises.
The circuit machines until you learn form.
Do movements slowly as they are harder.
You know you have the right weight of it is hard to do the last two of a set of twelve.
Do a couple sets each.
Don't worry where you start. Joy comes from personal progress.0
