Travel Advice

Hey Everyone,
In a few days I will be going on a trip. Sadly, I have no idea where we are eating but I know that the hotel offers a free breakfast buffet.
I am working so hard to lose weight and I don't want to blow in a 4-day trip. Do you have any advice for me to help me maintain or still lose weight?
This is my first real trip since beginning my weight loss journey. I have lost 40 pounds and I don't want to see it again.
Thanks in Advance!

Take a look at your maintenance calories. Try to eat there or even keep up your deficit if you're comfortable. Make wise decisions, eat some yummy things in moderation. Enjoy yourself!
Anyway, breakfast buffets are easy! Scrambled eggs, couple slices of bacon, slice of toast if your calories allow (I'd skip), coffee.0 -
Vacation advice?
Pack extra camera batteries and memory card.
Don't leave your luggage unattended.
Don't make yourself crazy worrying about blowing your diet on a 4 day trip. Eat as healthily as you can; look for foods that already fit into your current list. (Spinach salad, scrambled eggs, roasted chicken, etc), keep your logging going, but mostly enjoy yourself!
One of my tricks is to carry a couple protein bars or an Ensure drink in my backpack, so that I don't look for snacks to fill me up during travel delays, or when I'm out sightseeing. If I can grab a protein bar, I'll be less likely to grab that soft pretzel.0 -
It's very very unlikely that you'll gain any kind of significant weight over 4 days (bear in mind 1lb = 3500calorie EXCESS over maintenance). Just stick to maintenance calories and enjoy yourself! I went on holiday to Italy for 8 days before Christmas- pasta, pizza, lots of oil in everything and I gained 9lbs. A few days later I'd lost most of that as a lot of it was water weight.
Just try and make sensible choices, but dont go out of your way to be 'awkward'. There's nothing wrong with being health and calorie conscious but dont let it impact your trip0 -

I travel often for work and this hit the nail on the head. I might throw in one of those 60 calorie dannon yogurts or a little bit of fruit but this is basically it for breakfast

Are you going with family?
I have sent husband with kids for breakfast buffet and just eaten my bran cereal on my own.
(I cannot resist temptation of buffets - I do not have that kind of willpower).
For lunches I sometimes take protein and fiber bars.
I have never been able to do portion control at buffets! Never.
Oh, and sending husband, gives me time to get ready. (women take longer).0 -
Hotel breakfast bars
Are temples to bad bacon.
And waffle sadness.0 -
I tend to try to eat two "good meals" that would be close to what I normally eat - portion size/veggies/etc. Then I have one meal I eat whatever. Part of what I love about travelling is food so I don't deprive myself.
As others have said, you aren't going to put it all back on even if you go crazy for 4days.
Keep in mind when you get on the scale you may see a spike when you get home. Travelling and extra sodium can spike water retention. It will fall off in a few days.
Have fun.0 -
What kind of trip is it? I went to Disney about 5 months into losing weight. Ate whatever but tried to be mindful. Did lots and lots of walking. Came home 4 lbs lighter.
If you have the opportunity, do lots of activity. And ENJOY your trip. Really, I wouldn't worry so much and just be mindful. As long as you get back to it when your return you'll be fine.0 -

This!
Breakfast buffets generally also have some healthier choices available, too. Like fresh fruit and yogurt. Add some of that into your breakfast to minimize the damage. And just relax and enjoy yourself!
A few days at maintenance or above will not negate everything you've done. When you get home, just pick up where you left off.

I ate/drank as much as I wanted for a two week holiday (cruise) and really, it didn't do much at all... And I really and truely ate whatever I wanted, including pizza at 1am following a three course dinner and a couple of sugary cocktails. The problem is with having "free rein" is that you have to be able to get back into it once the break is over. But as long as you can get back into it straight away, the damage is minimal.
